I appreciate a lot the power of positive thinking.

I have seen people who had things undesirable happened to them (e.g. storms or fires destroyed their homes or air passengers grounded due to whatever problems in airport etc) and they are still calm and patiently wait on the resolving of issues. Or they are grateful on the safety of families even though disaster has come.

We have wind storms these few days in Vancouver area. Some areas have gone out of power due to this. Wish the positive thinking is going to help us in riding the wind.

Happy Friday and weekend to everyone!

This is kite surfing scene taken in Squamish sometime ago.

Yes the guy was wearing the suit and tall hat. He was in the costume competition of the surfing contest. :o)

For We're Here - 100 Quotes Project

Yes this is a smartass interpretation of Emerson's quote, but I do love Ralph Waldo Emerson so much!! I have so many favorite quotes that I couldn't choose, so I did something fun. He does, after all, advise us to be silly! So this is me, becoming what I think about all day long...rich, thick, melty chocolate. ;)

I can't quite get off the collage concept; how about another. I am all about the skies though this sky was not really so powerful. I was down at Golden Ponds when I shot this and I thought I heard someone using equipment to work on the flood-blown spillway so I headed on around south of the ponds to the Greenway to have a look. It will still apparently take quite a while (years) but I have been by here often before but I happened to notice the sky as I was on my way back and thought it would be a good shot as I scampered back for cover. I guessed this was another dandy storm to grow and send out east. I hope it targets the Faux News climate exsquirts. Studies have proved their listeners know a great deal less about current events than those who watch nothing. For instance, science aside, what troubled weather do you see coming along. Enjoy the Tightie Rightie's "no global warming!" Time to pump carbons into the atmosphere even though they preach China and India won't work to cut carbon. Guess what, China and India are working to cut carbon emissions. Not the Kochs.

The truth is that I had been thinking about the wind mill shot even though I thought it was a less than ideal subject. I wanted more negative space/mass to develop and I thought of just sky within just sky but I needed a reason for a cutout. "True Detective" gave me a great starting point so in keeping, I looked up mug shots on Google for a good mug to use as a silhouette; I'm not including that mug, just his silhouette. Once I got into selecting two of my skies, the title and subject became clear: wishful thinking. Kind of like turning the US back into a Democracy Of the people, By the people and For the people. Pretty far fetched concept that. And we can't even stop TPP (SHAFTA) that the majority of the people reject.

February 15, 2008 Amy and I talked about the power of positive thinking today and how if you keep wishing to lose weight you'll always have weight to lose. And that you need to just envision yourself at your ideal weight. I don't really know if this is about loving my body or wanting to change it because I always seem to fluctuate between the two.

Day 260

Proverbs 23:6-8

"Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies, for he is like one who is inwardly calculating. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, but his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the morsels that you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words."

Maybe not the most exciting shot but I wanted to discuss this passage in detail.

Quite often the alternative translation of this verse is used to support the idea that the Bible promotes positive thinking. Sometimes people will quote, "As a man thinks within himself, so he is".

I have major problems with taking that approach to interpreting this verse. You can't just take a verse out of context to support your own ideas. Reading this verse in the context of the surrounding passage reveals the true meaning of the phrase and it is not the power of positive thinking. The verse is talking about a stingy man who gives the outward appearance of being generous but inside he is begrudgingly feeding the guest.

A fortune from a chocolate wrapper! A good one, for sure!

So, this stormtrooper on a speeder bike flies by, trying to round up the rebels on other Flickr pages. The Jedi says to him "You don't need to fly by my computer. You don't need to look at other people's pages. You can stop by on Planet Ducktourer and look through his photostream".

So go ahead, use the Force young Jedi (Flickrite).

LOL =)

Nearly every time I pick up the mail at the post office box, I say something to my spouse about "picking up the checks and cash," to which she usually rolls her eyes.

Yesterday, I found the latest J. Peterman Company catalog (Owner's Manual No. 153), featuring an illustration of "a mailbag full of cash," in the post box. I showed it to my wife, saying, "see, I always tell you I'm going to find checks and cash in the mail."

To my astonishment, when I got home and opened the rest of the mail, I did, indeed, find "a big check."

Six-hundred sixty-nine dollars might not be a "big check" to many people, but it's a pretty decent sum to me, and it was completely unexpected. According to the enclosed letter, a long-running class-action lawsuit against a company I worked for over ten years ago (substitute teachers employed by the State of Hawaii Department of Education, if you want to know) resulted, after over a decade of litigation, in a settlement for underpayment of wages due. My share of that, as a former substitute teacher, was apparently $669.19, which showed up quite unexpectedly in the form of a check (or "cheque" for those of you who prefer to be contrary) on the same day I received the Peterman catalog with the illustration of the bag full of cash.

Needless to say, I shall be entering the J. Peterman Company sweepstakes contest.
