The power generated at the dam is generally used when client states hit peak capacity on their normal grids. These turbines, on the Nevada side, provide some of that power. A similar set exists on the Arizona side, but there are no tours conducted in Arizona. (That said, any filming involving the dam does occur in Arizona, so as to not interfere with the tours.)
Interesting side note: The dam is fully self-sufficient. It generates its own power (duh), and all money collected at the dam (be it for power, tours, gift shop sales, etc) is used to fund and operate the dam. There has been no taxpayer funding of Hoover Dam for over twenty years. Sometime in the 1980s (I forget when, but want to say 1987), the dam finished paying back the US Treasury for its construction and (until then) maintenance and operations. Ever since, it has been able to fund itself.
