This woman and her friend in Paris were both holding 1 balloons....maybe they were both #1 at something...maybe she was number one in her study and research of the human limbic system and maybe he was number one at making fancy cupcakes with a creamy filling. Maybe she was number one at designing viaducts and he was number one at making tiny models of world leaders out of clay. Either way, together, they are eleven but separate, they will still both me number one to me. I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

This is for my sweet friend Christa, who lost her husband/best friend suddenly on Nov. 14th. We are in such shock; we live hundreds of miles apart and didn't know until tonight . . . Devastated. HJ loved Christa so much, as well as their 3 cats. He will be terribly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

El Nacedero del río Urederra es la salida natural del acuífero formado en el macizo kárstico de la Sierra de Urbasa. La primera surgencia se produce en un cortado a 700 metros de altitud en el reborde meridional del macizo, originando una impresionante caída de más de 100 metros, que con el transcurso de millones de años ha modelado un anfiteatro rocoso de notable belleza. Es uno de los enclaves más espectaculares de Navarra (declarado reserva natural en 1987).

Mágicos momentos pasamos en este maravilloso lugar. Acompañados durante el recorrido por el murmullo del agua cristalina, la luz que se filtraba entre las hojas de los árboles tiñendo de preciosos colores otoñales el paisaje, el aroma a naturaleza, el silencio, la paz y la energía positiva que se respiraba en este paraíso.

The Nacedero of the Urederra River is the natural outlet of the aquifer formed in the karstic massif of the Sierra de Urbasa. The first upwelling occurs in a cut at 700 meters altitude at the southern edge of the massif, causing an impressive fall of more than 100 meters, that over the course of millions of years has shaped a rocky amphitheater of remarkable beauty. It is one of the most spectacular enclaves of Navarre (declared a natural reserve in 1987).

Magical moments we spent in this wonderful place. Accompanied during the tour by the murmur of crystal clear water, the light that filtered through the leaves of the trees, to dye the landscape with beautiful autumnal colors, the aroma of nature, silence, peace and positive energy that was breathed in this paradise.

This photo of Darby was taken nearly one year ago, exactly a month before she passed away. She has a toy by her feet. She carried her toys everywhere and always was ready to play. She had been on chemo for more than a year and wasn't feeling very well, but she always had a positive, playful attitude. She had much to teach me. She was my source of positive energy.

I used a slight Orton effect on this photo.

We decided to partake in the ceremony of hanging the prayer flags we made in Paro at the Kikila Pass (2700m) in Bhutan. The prayer flags were carefully unfurled, with each panel representing prayers and blessings in line with a long-standing tradition. The Kikila Pass served as a symbolic gateway, connecting the earthly and divine realms and bridging the gap between the material and the spiritual. We securely fastened the prayer flags to nearby trees and posts, utilizing them as channels for positive energy and blessings – Kikila Pass, Bumthang, Bhutan

A strange sort of indifference tends to develop as we age. I suppose it's a way of coping with the pain of violence in the world, sickness, disease and suffering. So long as it does not affect us, so long as there is a perception of safe distance, we tend to put it aside. It's not that we are uncaring, it's just a technique to avoid getting bowled over by the daily news. But even then, there are limits. For me the limits are children and animals. Involve either one of those groups in a violent act or tragedy and I'm somewhere between enraged and overwhelmed with sadness. Recently I learned of a young girl, just nine years old, just diagnosed with cancer. She should be enjoying summer vacation, eating popsicles, playing with her friends, and thinking about her next year of school. But instead of that she'll be thinking about recurring hospital stays, chemotherapy, losing her hair, and facing a battle to save her life. Things like this make me feel so helpless and ineffective. My petty concerns with the hassles of daily living diminish into nothing. I've never even met the girl or her family. Doesn't matter. In times like this I feel very connected, even to total strangers. And so I pray for her recovery.

Just got a phone call...the one you don't want to get...

that your child is in jail.....

Karlene had an accident, no one was hurt...physically anyway...

gosh it hurts though...

Jim just phoned, said 'we're not bad parents, Karlene just makes some bad choices...'

It's the second time in 24 years I've seen Jim cry. The first time was when Karlene was born.

We're taking the car away...it's totaled anyway I think...

and she'll be staying home and won't be going back to work.

She was under the influence so the police took her to jail and she'll get out later today,

after a psychiatric evaluation...because the people in the neighborhood said she was saying she wanted to kill herself...

Sorry, I don't mean to air my crap here but just wanted to let you know why I'll be gone for at least the rest of today, and if anyone has any answers, that would be great :)

She is 17 years old and just wants to go go go...

Like most 17 year old kids...you want to get out of the house, experience life...

but when do we learn there's no place like home?
