Polypore - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Polypore
The name polypores is often used for a group that includes many of the hard or leathery fungi, which often lack a stipe, growing straight out of wood. "Polypore" is derived from the Greek words poly, meaning "much" or "many", and poros, meaning "pore".

And the currawong was not "oozing charm from every pore'.
This pair of kestrels spent most of the evening trying to shake off a currawong. Occasionally a sulphur-crested cockie joined in. The kestrels have amazing arial evasive skills. They circle higher and higher in quite tight circles, then dive into a tree leaving the fray wondering what happened.

Another close up of orange pore fungi growing on top of a fallen log. (See my previous post at flic.kr/p/2kV1eWB)
There's are real little eco-system here - there are hundreds of minute white insect larvae crawing around beneath the fungi - they move quite quickly hence the blur because of the slow shutter-speed.
The underside of a bracket fungus (probably Ganoderma applanatum) on a beech tree in Epping Forest, showing the pores from which the spores are released. The fungus causes a rot in the heartwood of the tree - this is just the fruiting body.
Taken in the forest. In this year we found many of them :)
The Bay bolete (Imleria badia), is an edible, pored mushroom found in Europe, Australia and North America, where it grows in coniferous or mixed woods on the ground or on decaying tree stumps, sometimes in prolific numbers. The bay bolete is an edible mushroom. It can be fried in butter, or used with meat or fish recipes. Mushrooms can also be frozen, dried, or pickled in cider vinegar, wine, or extra virgin olive oil, and later used in sauces or soups.

Podgrzybek z bliska ;) Całkiem sporo ich w tym roku było w lesie :)
Podgrzybek brunatny (Imleria badia) – gatunek grzybów z rodziny borowikowatych. Występuje w Ameryce Północnej, Europie, Australii i Japonii.
A close look from a different angle. How cool are these ridges on the side of the cup & the pores on the stem?

These are out in force at the moment. We saw heaps on our walk the other day.
Explored, thank you :)
The Beefsteak fungus is unique in bracket fungi in that rather than forming pores as such, it forms separate tubes. Each tube is a fraction of a millimetre across.
One of the most interesting groups of plants in the world, the famous Rafflesia'a are holoparasitic towards a genus of vines in the south-east Asian rainforests. They have no leaves, stems or roots, with the ginormous flower sprouting above the surface the only visible part of the plant outside of the vine host. This flower can reach a metre in diameter and only lasts a matter of days!
The flower gives off a foul odour which gives it the name 'Corpse Flower', but the purpose is to attract flies to collect pollen for transport, which can be seen in the closer image.
Rafflesia keithii is named after Harry Keith, a British plant collector who helped conserve large tracts of rainforest in Sabah. These flowers can be seen for a very short amount of time by very lucky people like ourselves in the Poring Hot Springs region along the slopes of Mount Kinabalu.
This is it. The final drop for the Gloom weekend, and we're ending on a dark, powerful note. Today's vibe: Dark Desire.
This look is built on the brand new Theo Skin from Gloom, a flawless canvas for a darker aesthetic.
The entire look is wrapped in the new Runescape Tattoo, also from Gloom an intricate masterpiece of ink.
And the gaze? The classic, intense Dirty Work Eyes.
This isn't just a look; it's a testament to the power of layering. I've stacked a full arsenal of BOM from HISS. SYLYS, S-RANK, Physique X, and Not Found to create a character that's been through it all and owns his darkness.
The Dio Hair from TRASH. and the Divine Glory Thong from KLN SZN complete the unapologetic look.
