Today, a big day in Mexico, federal elections for legislators and half of the Governors in the Country. If we continue with this Populist line, we'll go to crash like the south american countries and Cuba. So, we must do something. I've already vote.

Somebody affixed a label on the Euro sign in front of the former ECB headquarter stating "Ukraine - tomorrow in Europe/EU and in the Euro". While I understand the notion, this populist wish with its urgency neglects all political necessities on the way to a united Europe. There are other better ways to support Ukraine in fighting back the Russian invasion.

Neue Schuldige müssen her. Denn die Verantwortung will niemand selbst tragen. Aber was soll's. Life is what you make it. Better on my own...“

The second album by New Order, released on 02 May 1983.
With its electronic-based sound it marks the definitive turning away from the rather gloomy predecessor and the Joy Division legacy. The album was included in the top 100 albums of the 1980s lists in the Rolling Stone magazine.
This title should be the slogan for the populist (right-wing even if he denies it) government that we have in my country right now. I am sure that are some of you have governments that would be proud to use this motto, too.

It seems wherever the are right wing populists there will be a denial of science whether its climate or health . The Trump regime will not even allow a mention of climate change in its agencies . With people like this in power there is a little chance that we can save the planet from overheating . They don’t care, I can only assume they think their billions will protect them . I can never decide are they evil or just utterly stupid

2020 has been such a hard year. The pandemics, stupid populist governments (at least in my country), severe wildfires in both hemispheres, and a lot of tropical storms in both the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. Here we are now in the extended lockdown due to the Gamma tropical storm that has strike down the Yucatan Peninsula. At this moment, we have more than 24 hours of continuous rain.
Hope that no lives are not lost.

It was my first visit to Russia more than twenty years ago i.e. soon after they adopted the so called "shock therapy" whereby Russians became so desperately poor as a result ! Russia was nevertheless a most mysterious country to me at the time. It was also the time when I began to get the hang of photography. The bad thing being, many of these works are not to the populist's taste nowadays.

On August 20, 1672, the brothers Cornelis and Johannes de Witt were brutally murdered in The Hague.
They fell victim to a political and populist hate campaign engendered by their deliberately anti-Orangeist stance and by the extremely difficult political and military situation of the Republic of the Seven Netherlands in that year.
Johan became the ruler of Holland in 1653.

On June 2nd we had general elections in Mexico. We had two choices:
to continue with the populist, inefficient, corrupt and conservative government that we have since the last six years, but disguised as a liberal left-side party
or
to give the chance to rule to a strange mixed coalition that could restore a better social policies.
The preliminary results are not good, so it seems that we missed the last train to a better future. Hope that I am wrong.

Edward Dickinson: I believe in this country, and I believe in the good guys. And at the end of the day, the good guys win because we love America. And when immigrants come here to join us, we throw our arms wide open and we say, "Welcome. Grab a seat. Eat a hot dog." We don't kick people out. No. And as far as these Know-Nothings go, it sounds to me like what they need to know something about is a little thing called patriotism. And generosity. And pride :-)

Nasreddin or Nasreddin Hodja or Mullah Nasreddin Hooja is considered a populist philosopher of the 13th century, a Sufi and wise man, remembered for his funny stories and anecdotes. A Nasreddin story usually has a subtle humour and a pedagogic nature. His stories are well known in the islamic world, and some of them have similarities to those of Till Eulenspiegel, a German peasant trickster of the 14th century whose merry pranks were the source of numerous folk and literary tales (Till Owlglass Tales).
And best wishes too! Have you finally resolved the matter of human insatiability and greed? Is social exclusion now a matter of the past, and have you learned to think empathetically? Are you, unlike us, no longer prone to superstition and mental manipulation by populists? Have you found new traditions that are less dangerous than the ideologies and religions we had then? Is the conflict of capital and labour a thing of the past? Are you still in charge or is artificial intelligence calling the shots? What planet are you actually on?
Mitakon Speedmaster at F0.95. Actually, this was just a test shot (comparing this lens with the 7Artisans 35/1.2 and the Pentacon 30/3.5). But then I thought of Kurt Tucholsky's book "Gruss nach vorn" (1926/31) where he is addressing the readers of 1985 and asking some uncomfortable questions. I think it is time to ask again.

Captured somewhat candidly at 'Daks over Prestwick' in May 2019. A dozen DC-3 and C-47 aircraft were on display during a stopover on their way from the US to D-Day celebrations in France.
Today, 5th May 2025, starts a 4 day celebration in the UK commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day).
We must never forget the sacrifice of a generation. Risking, and too often losing, their lives in the fight against fascism and tyranny. A fight that, thankfully, the democratic world won.
More important that never forgetting those brave men and women, we must NEVER forget the reason for which they were called upon to make that sacrifice.
Far right politics has been normalised and mainstreamed by media in the Western world over the past few years and has, therefore, gained popularity. Far right parties have been elected and authoritarian fascist policies are being enacted. All the while it is normalised by the absence of scrutiny in the billionaire owned media, the same billionaires financially backing such politics around the world.
None of this is normal. Deporting and incarcerating people without charge, stifling the free press, attacking science and universities and scapegoating minorities - these are all straight out of the fascist playbook. They are happening now.
We even have left wing political parties swinging towards the hard right to appease the populist far right movement.
This is obscene. No good comes from political extremism, either right or left, only suffering.
Stop blaming immigrants, trans people, the poor and the disabled for the world's ills. That is where the billionaires and politicians want you to point the finger. Ask yourself why? Why do they want you to look elsewhere?
Don't let fascism and tyranny rule your lives once more. Learn from the past. Rise up. Fight against it. Legally. Justly. Peacefully. Do that before it takes an army and more needless death to bring peace and prosperity to all.
Lest we forget.
Does not want to be seen when manipulating us. Is hiding. Enjoys to create confusion and division. Interferes in our and perhaps your elections. Is helping with the funding of populist political parties through middlemen. Is directly profiting from the Brexit nonsense. He's the Bear. Waiting for his grand entry on to the world's stage as the true defender of occidental values - positively male, virile, patriotic, orthodox and undemocratic. The Bear dreams of yesterday. What do you dream of?

Masks are a wonderful thing. This is a Korean folk theatre mask. But geography does not matter here. Manipulation of the electorate happens almost everywhere. Even in self-declared beacons of democracy such as the US and the UK. In particular there, at the moment. Promoting populist policies in the interest of the few are shady and non-elected political advisers. They are hiding behind the mask of the elected government. But they are looking at you. Anonymously captured in May 2017 and previously unpublished. I had arrived to what sounded like a woman being assaulted and a police officer rushing from his parked car. I was pleased that I had not arrived sooner to the location for fear that I would have simply had to have intervened!
Today, following devastating local elections for The Conservative Party, the State Opening of Parliament took place. HRH The Prince of Wales read a speech written by The Government in respect to their coming bills and actions for this session of government.
Laws previously rejected by The Lords for being too draconian are now back on the agenda. Bills set to make protesting ever more illegal. Once those are through there will be bills to reduce your basic human rights. The European Court of Human Rights will still be an option above and beyond the UK law but only for the very wealthy, there will be no legal aid to go beyond UK law. New bills are coming to alter electoral processes and the scope of areas, which follow on from a law already passed to remove independence from the Electoral Commission. Elections will be overseen by the Government in power.
When the Tory Government start stripping rights that mean something to you and they have already removed your legal right to protest against them, please don't start crying saying that you didn't see it coming.
Make no mistake - these are dark times. We have a populist autocratic Government bent on lies, cover ups and avoidance of accountability. We are on the verge of an elected dictatorship and our media are powerless as they are controlled by the Tory party or major donors to the Tory party. Well, aside from Channel 4 which is why the Tories want to sell it off!
Dark times. More police powers are coming. Fewer rights. Fewer freedoms. Less opportunity to affect change through voting. This is how Germany tumbled in the 1930s.
The television stuntman addicted to PR opportunities, the populist right-winger always offering oven-ready solutions that don't work, the great demagogue promising highways of diamonds that don't exist, the friend of the people who would let poor kids go hungry but pump more money into Britain's global military presence, the man we in the UK have voted into power - our great embarrassment.
I had a day in the Lake District yesterday before the door is shut tomorrow, as I’m taking the car in for it’s service today it was my last chance, my last hoorah. More of that when my gear dries out and I get look at the photos. I’ve been so disappointed with my captures on these outings of late and I think part of it is looking at these photos while I’m still glowing from the adventure and they never live up to that glow. Anyway it’s #WaveWednesday last weeks offering Fury was my most popular photo on instagram, thank you for your appreciation. As I write this it’s still not looking good in the world, it looking like that awful man is going to get another 4 years. Why is it as humanity edges to destruction we are putting our faith in these populist chancers. They have horrible policies, and when disaster hits like the rona they don’t manager the problem as they are more worried about their image. Many see through this, and are horrified by ordinary people supporting these privileged egotists, which causes deep division and hatred and I had hoped this may be a turning point but I fear it won’t. If the virus and their management has not brought us to our senses I fear for the worst. After that side swipe and talking about populist chances here is my wave Side swipe.
Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, De Noord, Alblasserdam, Nedstaal factory (uncut)
Nedstaal started life in 1937 as a branch of the Delft NKF, locally known as 'De Kabel'. The factory was built at the 'Ruigenhil' location outside the dike. By the way, cables were never produced in Alblasserdam, but it was mainly about the protective covering of the cables. The special steel alloys required for this were primarily manufactured from scrap. This was heated strongly and poured into molds in liquid steel and sold or rolled. The company was closed in 1973 (oil crisis) and 1988 respectively. Due to disappointing results, the factory was split into a steel and cable part. And both factories were performing well. However, due to increasing competition from Chinese and Korean companies, the sales market deteriorated, and losses were incurred again, leading to bankruptcy in 2014. The buildings and installations were demolished a few years after that.
Let’s hope that the fate of the shiny scrap at the bottom of the frame will be the same as the amoral and unconstitutional plans for the upcoming populist right-wing Dutch government – to be melted down.

Innehalten. Durchatmen. Ja, wir können weiter...“
The Trabi, one of the hidden marvels of German engineering, was fairly advanced when the basic design was laid out, in 1957, from simple and essential lines with on top a gray anonymous mask and lots of apathy. Ugly without rivals and looking almost as if popped out of a comic book, it managed to conquer the public with the charm of the unique object. It really was the only choice for the DDR citizens, a “take it or leave it” deal. And the ppl took it and they took it with a smile on their faces and years later this absurd and anachronistic populist car was going to take them to the other side of the Wall becoming a legend, the symbol of freedom, of rebirth, of reunification.
Everything about this car is an incredible study in doing more with less. The Trabant had front-wheel drive 10 years before European cars began adapting it en masse and almost a quarter of century before the layout became common among smaller American cars. The problem was not the original design, but, rather, how long they stuck with it: nearly for 30 years. The problem was not the lack of trying. At least twenty prototypes were created and rumors persist that one of them was secretly sold to Volkswagen, influencing the Golf.
LazerHawk - King of the streets
As 2016 has come to an end I'm kind of relieved it's over. Politically it has been a one of the worst years I can remember with the rise of populist politics and post-truth all over the world, the breakdown of European unity and of course the arrival of Islamist terror attacks in Germany. On a family level the death of a loved one hit us and we are still reeling from it. Personally I just tried to move along. My photography suffered because of it and the almost complete loss of my camera gear in Iceland was the sad culmination of this development.
Still, there were moments of hope and joy in 2016 as well and I guess after such a year it can only get better now. Even though I rarely went out to photograph the few occasions when I did still showed me why I care so much about photography. These rare moments when suddenly everything comes together and you can just observe in wonder is what gets me going. During our trip in Iceland I had several of these moments but I found this photo from a couple of years back most fitting. It shows the snow covered plains of the Black Forest which were devastated by a huge storm several years ago. You can still see how nature is affected by it but when the sun broke through the ravaged landscape suddenly came to life. And an explosion of colors changed it to something very beautiful and hopeful looking.
I hope I will experience some more of these moments in 2017 and be able to share them with you. I think these are the moments every photographer longs for and for me it is all about sharing these breathtaking occasions here with you. Wish you all a Happy New Year! Looking forward to photograph and post more often again this year. I already have some great ideas and locations in mind.
In Croydon, High Street you can find two murals for the The Croydon Mural Project. Given two walls facing opposite of each other in the South London town, the British artist Dotmaster decided to continue his Toy Town series, first started years ago at Nuart in Stavanger, with a Ragdoll and Astroboy. The pieces seem to be a play on a well known graffiti term and are based on actual toys he owns.
Dotmaster is the UK artist, started painting on the streets of Brighton in the early ’90s. He takes a sideways look at a populist media with a typically English sense of humour. His work is impeccably detailed – his half-tone work, stark black and white street pieces and unique, photo-real colour stencils all create street-based illusions that fool the eye.
Invited to take part in Banksy’s Waterloo ‘Cans Festival’ and featuring in the Oscar-nominated ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’, The Dotmaster exhibits internationally.
A driving force behind the Nuart festival in Norway, he has collaborated with grass roots activists, luxury brands, Glastonbury festival, weirdos, developers and drop outs.
Work has been shown at the Cabaret Voltaire, CH, ICA, UK, kunstnernes Hus, NO, Museum of modern art Gulbenkian foundation, PT and London Underground.

Excerpt from ago.ca/exhibitions/kaws-family?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2azAl-nR...:
Making his Canadian museum debut, Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly (1974), better known as KAWS, bridges the worlds of art, popular culture and commerce with sophisticated humour and insightful appropriation. Renowned for his larger-than-life sculptures of cartoon-inspired characters and exuberant hard-edge paintings that playfully emphasize line and colour, much like 1960s Pop artists, he blurs the boundaries between populist and elite art, bringing mass media imagery into traditional art spaces. Straddling the world of art and design, KAWS has forged a large international following both inside and outside the art world.
In this original AGO exhibition, visitors will see first hand the artist's meticulous methods, creative process and range, through more than 75 artworks including wall murals, sketches, paintings, sculptures, his altered phone booth advertisements and product collaborations. Centered in Signy Eaton Gallery, with interventions throughout the museum, the centrepiece of the exhibition, is a larger-than-life painted bronze sculpture FAMILY (2021), featuring four of KAWS’ recurring figures of varying sizes posed as a nuclear family.
Organized by the AGO, the exhibition is curated by Julian Cox, AGO Deputy Director and Chief Curator.

We here in Poland have this special ability to make things look very bad in process of making them look nice. Be it a road contruction, renovation or changing the street into a pedestrian area like in this case - the outcome is very nice most of the time. but in the meantime it looks like a total disaster.
I really hope that it applies to the country as a whole and our current populistic, incompetent, divisive, pathetic government and president are just a phase, the mess before it gets nice again.

Well it is goodbye to the Square format photos for my 100x project. I must say I am relieved as it got a little tedious to try and find relatively interesting photos in this format. I'm not certain I succeeded. Thanks for the journey for those who encouraged me onwards. As 2024 comes to a close in another day it is worth reflecting on the year. Many are writing how it has been the most violent year since WW2 and the hottest year since 2023 ( which was the hottest ever worldwide). As nearly half the world went to elections in 2024 and most elected anti-immigration, populist leaders it is clear that many in the developed world are suffering whilst those in the poor countries are in absolute despair and want to move!
So while I wish you all a Happy New Year, remember that kindness and building communities are better for you than blame and negativity. Rant over!

On 21st February 2022 the UK Government announced the complete abandonment of public health measures to protect its citizens, especially the most vulnerable, during the continued coronavirus pandemic, the worst pandemic for over 100 years.
Removing free and freely available testing and rules requiring isolation of the infected is nothing less than a policy of discrimination against over 3 million clinically vulnerable and clinically extremely vulnerable citizens of the nation.
Those vulnerable to increased risk of death and debilitating severe long-term disease from Covid-19 will now face an existential crisis when leaving their home.
Shopping will be dangerous, medical appointments will be a deadly place of airborne pathogens and dentistry will be impossibly dangerous. Just a few examples.
The Omicron variant is, through data from many countries, proving to be more damaging to people through blood clots than previous variants. Heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms and strokes are rising in those far past their infectious period. There is clinical evidence of brain damage from Covid-19 and growing evidence of testicular damage. Covid-19 is a disease of endothelial tissue and blood clotting - it always has been. There will be huge long term consequences and any damage from one infection will make an individual more vulnerable to a Covid-19 reinfection.
The vulnerable and extremely vulnerable people in this are not an exclusive group or club. Every single human is just one illness, infection or injury away from becoming clinically vulnerable themselves. It can happen to you - at any time.
Reducing the vulnerable population to an 'acceptable loss' in a public health crisis is nothing short of eugenics. Every death adds to a tally of democide.
A civilised society protects it's most vulnerable.
A selfish society does nothing.
Under these measures we are all vulnerable to Covid-19.
Yes I am angry. I, however, follow the science. The peer reviewed science by the majority of highly esteemed medics and scientists around the world. I listen to anecdotal evidence of the millions of people suffering from post-Covid disease, some for over 2 years without improvement.
The removal of protective health measures (*they were NEVER restrictions) is nothing more than a populist move and not only goes against all scientific fact, it defies basic common sense.
Please stay safe my Flickr friends and thank you if you took the time to read my thoughts on this. Thank you.
