Look closely and you can see the pollen on the bee's abomen and hind legs. The 12-50 EZ does a decent job at its 43mm macro setting, though at some point I'd love to get the dedicated 60mm.

The plant I identified is catnip (Nepeta cataria). Catnip is native to Europe but is a naturalized wildflower throughout the United States.
This flower displays bilateral symmetry, and a slightly tubular flower, however the flower has a wide mouth and the reproductive parts extend beyond the tubular part of the flower, so it will be classified as not tubular. Based on the pollinator key, beetles, bee-like flies,carrion flies, or moths are not likely pollinators. The remaining possible pollination systems are bees, bats, and wind, with butterflies and birds being less likely.

B. The visitors did not match my predictions for the flower.

D. This site has a higher than average number of pollinators.
E. Yes, pollinator service is probably a proxy for other kinds of ecosystem variables. If any other ecosystem variable such as soil quality or water filtration were to change, it could affect any number of other variables in the ecosystem, it could changing the composition of the site overall by providing conditions that different plant species prefer, and potentially altering reproductive or feeding sites for pollinators.

Project 7 x 52: Pollinators. I found dozens of varieties on a just a few plants in the Peace Garden in Bear River.
I have seen so many of these this Summer -thought it was about time I actually took a photo of one. Oh and I really must apologise for the title....

Pollinator Planets. Two hanging baskets tied together. Filled with Bits of Ben's fur, twigs, hose pipe, ivy, old bark, fluff from the tumble drier, small branches and moss. I am really pleased with it.

A healthy pollinator population is important for food and seed production. The Vancouver Park Board worked with UBC students through CityStudio Vancouver to create three prototypes for housing some of these tiny yet critical Vancouver residents. UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture students produced these designs and are testing them here. Here are two shots of the same Pale Swallowtail (Papilio eurymedon) butterfly working new flowers of native Prickly-Phlox (Leptodactylon californicum, Polemoniaceae). These aren't he best photos, but they show something interesting. In the photo on the left, the butterfly has its proboscis deep in the flower. On the right, the butterfly is withdrawing - showing a smear of yellow pollen on its proboscis that it might carry to another flower. Thus pollination happens with these deep-throated flowers, see this photo to appreciate just how deep they go! (San Marcos Pass, 3 May 2020)

Yes, I do think pollinator service can serve a proxy for other types of ecosystem services. Good soil production and good air quality will definitely attract the pollinators! Good air quality = expands oxygen/CO2 = photosynthesis = pretty sunlight to enable their growth. Good soil = more nutrients, fertilization, decomposing = grows healthy = happy plants/flowers! :)
