Plains coreopsis, agastache, evening primrose, set in a bouquet for flying critters. I added the agastache and coreopsis this year. The glossy leaves are the primrose. I may be able to get a photo of them tomorrow
For the 115 in 2015 Group - #66 Pollination
Usually a normal sight from early Spring onwards. But this year the very cold summer has made life difficult for the insects. We have seen almost no butterflies, and even these hardy wild bees have been scarce until a late warm spell in September!

It's that time of the year when the Bees are so very busy pollinating all of the beautiful flowers.

I have a large poppy plant in a pot, bought last year. It survived the winter and has now flowered and gone to seed. A neighbour has/had some of these in his garden, not sure if they're still there. I was hoping my poppy would have been pollinated from his plants, but as these pods haven't opened, I'm guessing not. A candidate for 28th July Macro Mondays, but I went with the moss fern instead.
It hit 77 degrees here yesterday afternoon and the pollinators were rallying around anything still blooming that had not succumbed to the frost earlier in the week.

Note the yellow, bulky pollen basket attached to a hind leg, similar to that of the numerous honeybees on the same bush. (This girl's mommy is going to insist on giving her a bath when she gets home!)

At the Penn State Arboretum they have a pollinator's garden and part of that are so really interesting wood pieces for bees. The shapes and textures are so luscious. Hope you have a wonderful Friday!
Cross pollination is when one plant pollinates a plant of another variety. The two plants' genetic material combines and the resulting seeds from that pollination will have characteristics of both varieties and is a new variety. Sometimes cross pollinating is used intentionally in the garden to create new varieties. I wonder how this will turn out. All I know is, both are sweating a lot 😂

These bees really asked for it. There was a huge bush full of them, two days ago already (when I somehow didn't find the time to shoot them), and today again.
I chose this one from the series because it's sharp where it should be, and because it's the only one where you see the sucker of the bee.
