and I did.

one of my favorite annuals, but here it isn't. some plants winter over, a million other plants are self-seeded.
I don't know why the pony packs here are so expensive.

**I took some time last night to read what I could on the lives of each of the children and the teachers who died in the Uvalde Texas massacre. several of the news media posted pictures and short stories.
the children were born and lived with families who loved them for the short 10-11 years they were here. I thought it was the least I could do to celebrate their lives. I did the same with the 2 teachers.
it was hard reading and I cried a lot but it was my small way of honoring them and their families.
I would like to think that I'll never have to do this again.
I worry about the survivors. they saw things no one should have to see, and they are just little kids.
NO WARS.
NO KILLINGS.

after the last "no", she sat and stared at me for 5+ minutes.
[since I think marina was never socialized, she has some lapses in her behaviors. it took her a long time to try and follow our instructions. she still is easily confused. but she's come a long long way.
she's the one who tries to tell me about their walkies every night, especially if something special happened. and she tattles when the others are naughty]

after sleeping off and on all day in her daddy's bed she comes upstairs to her bed but she doesn't make a nest.
she gets in my lap and wants to play. and she stares at me.
no nest at night. and no rest.

I think about how pretty Zendaya is without any make-up and then realize that they probably have to put a ton of make-up on her to make her look un-made up.
as I weed and prune
I brought out the canvas chair from the greenhouse. in the mornings it holds my flannel shirt when I get too hot, my iced coffee, a thermos of cold water, and a vase full of the flowers I can't bear to toss when I prune off a flowering stalk of something. this shows orange crocrosmia and purple roses.
at night the flowers remain.

the image on the right was with a slightly iffy Polaroid Colorpack II and a paper negative. I want to see what I can do. I get textures.
we got two cords of wood delivered to finish out this rainy season and to take us into the next. the wood stove is our only source of heat except for some portable heaters in really cold areas in the house during the winter.
leon has been stacking for days. I helped him with 2 cart loads, into the cart and then onto the wood pile. it hurts my back, but I can do a little at a time. it's good for me.

FYI to see what I've been doing. picture 1: looking out on the vast expanse of weeds. with a few flowers scattered in.
picture 2: looking at what I've done. and it took me 4 or 5 days to do it. I will get the pots put back and the area tidied up.
**no need for comments
Sunday while my grandson was weed whacking, his girlfriend natalie was helping me weed. she watered all my dahlia pots for me and then weeded in front of them. now I can see what's in each pot.
it's so nice to have helpers.

yes, indeedy, I shot him 17 times, but he was big and scary and probably on something.
the bullets didn't kill him, he must have had a medical condition and was taking heavy drugs.
**I don't understand why the trial of derek chavin is going to take 3+ weeks.
I don't watch news much, but I happened to wander into the living room when leon was watching tv and saw the very instant mr. floyd died.
it was shattering.
chauvin's knee was on mr floyd's neck for an additional 2+ minutes.
insanity.

One thing that I like about polaroid b&w film is its tendence, when underexposed, to look a bit like a pencil draw. In a time of oversharpened, crystal clear, superdefined digital images this kind of look it's some sort of a relief for me.

So I did a couple shoot for Billie and Raymond back in January, and right before we were done I remembered that I needed to get a test shot for a project I wanted to start writing soon, so I sat them down and took this. Never did get around to writing that photo essay/story I wanted to write, but the entire outline is done and I know exactly how it ends. If only I had the motivation to write it. Lord knows I’ve got the time...
