When a recipe calls for a vanilla pod, don't just throw it away after you scrape the caviar. Instead, fill a clean jar with white sugar and insert the scraped pods. A few days later, you'll have a jarful of vanilla-scented sugar. You can use it in your recipes or simply sweeten your coffee or tea with it.

Another experiment with Mecabricks' rendering service. I used a night sky HDR lighting, as this seemed to be the most similar to the sort of background that I had in mind. Edited in Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6.0 that I bought years ago.

The Pod is 17 inches tall now.

There's a bunch more popping up.

The putrefied stink of death surrounds it.

OK, here's some important information.

These seed pods were changing colour as they were dying. I liked the variation from when they were starting to dry out to when they went hard and crisp. The seeds inside were clearly visible.

Grey Seals-DSC_7913 - Part of a pod of Grey Seals swimming in the St Lawrence River at Cap des Bon-Desir north of Tadoussac, Quebec. The pod size was estimated to have 50 seals in it.

I can’t help but see “people” in some of these Oriental poppy seed heads, so I had a little fun with this one! ;-D

Auto-Takumar 35/2.3, with one extension tube. Wide open.

Fast with extremely narrow dof because of the light/wind/hand-held, so hard to identify the right sub-atomic particle to focus on.

This simple old second-hand $5 tube has cured me of a $500 f1.2 lust.

Seed pods from wildflowers in the San Francisco Bay Area hills.

This is a very subtle photograph, with a small range of tones and nothing hat is quite pure white or even close to black. The light in the early evening here was quite soft, and I almost decided not to try to photograph this subject — the colors were so subtle, the light was low, and I was working handheld. But there I was, there the seed pods were, so I decided to give it a try.

The pods belong to some very tall wild grasses that grow along a trail that I frequently hike. Perhaps only weeks ago this would have been a very green subject, but here in California we move pretty quickly from the green of April to the brown, tan, and golds of the warmer portion of the year.

Coop and I found these on a rare desert walk. I am told the little seeds will make your skin super itchy.

No, they didn't notice me, altho the one on the left did later.
