Flower Plate 5 is a macro photograph of the back of an anemone flower on a light box. It is a part of a tribute to the artists who created 1000 flower plates.

DADDY: "Are you settling in well, Edgar and Benjamin?"
EDGAR: "Oh yes, Daddy!"
BENJAMIN: "Thank you Daddy!"
DADDY: "That's good, my darlings! I am pleased to hear that."
BENJAMIN: "It's especially lovely when we get to take tea together."
EDGAR: "And enjoy such delicious macarons!" *Licks lips with cute little pink bear tongue.*
BENJAMIN: "Grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 17th of January is "plush toys", which is the perfect theme for me, as I have a lovely collection of soft plush bears who quite enjoy being in front of my camera and under my lens. Both made by Merrythought Bears in Ironbridge, Shropshire, Edgar and Benjamin are the two latest additions to my ever burgeoning bear family. I hope you like my choice of bears for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
This beautiful Willow Pattern nursery tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1920s. It features four cups and saucers as well as a tea pot, coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated with the Willow Pattern in blue, just like the life-size equivalent. It has two sister sets: a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set that I was given as a gift some years ago by a close friend who knows I collect nursery ware and children’s tea sets and a faerie tale set from the 1930s Shell China Company faerie tale tea set that I have built up from various sellers over time.
Handmade at Merrythought in England from warm-gold tousled mohair plush, Edgar is a cheerful companion who has terracotta pure cotton velvet paws, and wears a delightful floral cotton bow tie. He is number 2 of a limited worldwide edition of 200.
Benjamin is made by Merrythought in England too. A friendly character, he has been handmade from soft, caramel-coloured mohair plush featuring a chocolate-coloured base that beautifully complements his pure wool felt paws. He wears a traditional, satin-lined waistcoat made from the finest British tweed and secured with brass studs. He is number 110 of a limited worldwide edition of 150.
Decatur and Eastern Illinois (DREI) (former-NS/ex-SOU 5020) GP38-2 #3896 leads a four-unit consist and 112-car loaded grain train south out of Oakland, Illinois. The deactivated approach signal once warned north-bound Nickel Plate crews of a crossing with the Pennsy, now long gone.
A Watco subsidiary, the DREI initiated operations in September 2018 with the purchase of the CSX (ex-B&O) Decatur Subdivision and Danville Secondary Subdivision, connecting Decatur, Illinois and Terre Haute, Indiana. In December 2019, the railroad expanded by acquiring the Eastern Illinois Railroad (EIRC), consisting of approximately 56-miles of the former Nickel Plate Cloverleaf line between Neoga and Metcalf. The two lines are connected at Metcalf, forming a “V” pointed to the north east.
The train will head south for Charleston, pick up a fifth unit, and press on for Neoga, where the railroad interchanges with Canadian National. Although the hogger hasn't turned on the headlight yet, 3896 sports a wonky set of ditch lights that flash in unison, permitting me to time this shot to their "on" cycle.

Not the easiest challenge, and after various attempts, finally on settled on these two white dinner plates. For better or worse, they were in dappled light, hence the shadow in the background.

A pair of snowflakes: a Stellar Plate and Hexagon Plate.
Toronto had a bit of a "snow day", as we got 30 cm of snow during the course of the day. So I took advantage of the day off to see what I could capture. At -12˚C I knew there would be some plate snowflakes. However, they were tiny (2 mm dia. overall) and hard to find, as most of the snow would fall in clumps. Also the snowflakes were very transparent and difficult to see.
I would scan the wool matt with the LED ring light at the front of macro lens, hoping to catch snowflakes that would light up as gold flecks. I found these two more or less by themselves although there were some other flakes embedded with them. You can see the surrounding other flakes are transparent in this macro universe.
From deepskycorner: "The planetary nebula Abell 39 was discovered in 1955 by the American astronomer George Ogden Abell on the photo plates of the «Palomar Observatory Sky Survey» (POSS).
Abell 39 shows an almost perfect spherical bubble like a picture book for a planetary nebula. The western edge is about 50% brighter than the eastern. The central star is also not exactly in the center, but offset by about 2". It seems that this is due to a slightly asymmetrical ejection of matter and not an interaction with interstellar matter. It is estimated that the central star and the ejected material each have 0.6 solar masses."

(Light sensitive polymer plates allow for photorealistic etchings. A photo-sensitive coating is applied to the plate by either the plate supplier or the artist. Light is projected onto the plate as a negative image to expose it. Photopolymer plates are either washed in hot water or under other chemicals according to the plate manufacturers' instructions. Areas of the photo-etch image may be stopped-out before etching to exclude them from the final image on the plate, or removed or lightened by scraping and burnishing once the plate has been etched. Once the photo-etching process is complete, the plate can be worked further as a normal intaglio plate, using drypoint, further etching, engraving, etc. The final result is an intaglio plate which is printed like any other.)
In 1862, the Countess of Ripon commissioned Sir George Gilbert Scott to build this church in memory of the first Earl, her husband, on their estate at Nocton, near Lincoln. This was completed in 1863 in an elaborate Early English style in Ancaster stone, with plate tracery and a 130 foot steeple. The builder was Mr W Hudleston. Scott also designed a monument to the Earl in 1859, the effigy by Noble in 1862, executed by Farmer, to go in the completed church.
In the village, Scott designed terraces of partly three storey stone houses (for example, 18-21 Main Road) in an asymmetrical style, a lodge to Nocton Hall, and a Gothic style school. Her son, the new Marquis of Ripon, who became Lord President of the Council during Gladstone’s first administration (1868–73), would have further dealings with Scott.

Try out how paper can be exposed in the plate holder. It turns out that this old RR paper has a strange edge. As if the paper has been wet. I think it has something.
I rate the paper at 3 asa.
I changed these paper negatives to positive by PS.
