The delicate head of a pulsatilla flower against pink mountain azaleas. One of the few pasque flowers that survived the onslaught of a voracious mole in my Lake Tahoe garden. These lovely flowers come in colors ranging for pale lavender to intense purple and red. They are also known as pasque flower, windflower or meadow anemone.

ID'd by Dr. Art Shapiro, UC Davis. "The blue is lit in a way that makes the hindwing ventral pattern difficult to make out, but I'm pretty sure it's a female Arrowhead Blue, Glaucopsyche piasus."

Ken Davenport (butterfliesandmoths.org) - same issue with angle of photograph, but accepted as probably arrowhead blue.
