Actually a classic but when you see the tower it is already very impressive how crooked it stands. The tower began to tilt as the building was on the 3rd floor. The building was then suspended for more than 100 years. Only then did the new builders not continue to build the tower, but into the banana form to counteract the inclination. The whole area is very worth seeing basilica, cathedral and tower. I find the many symbols of the Crusaders that can be found everywhere exciting.

Pisa is a city in central Italy's Tuscany region best known for its iconic Leaning Tower. Already tilting when it was completed in 1372, the 56m white-marble cylinder is the bell tower of the Romanesque, striped-marble cathedral that rises next to it in the Piazza dei Miracoli, a grassy, walled square.

Torre Pendente di Pisa one heck of a bell tower, even without the tilt it would be a major tourist draw along with the Duomo and Baptistery a testament to Pisa’s long success as a profitable maritime republic. They started construction of the tower during the 12th century and because of poor location choice and improper soil preparation it promptly started sagging I guess in for a penny and all that they kept building finishing construction in the 14th century with around a 4.5 degree lean. The tower has survived 4 major earthquakes since its construction and scientists have determined the same soil that caused the tower to lean acted as a dampener for seismic events making it a proverbial silver lining.

The city is best known for its Leaning Tower, but we really enjoyed panorama of the city opening from the bridge over Arno river, castle and cathedrals.
An old photo from our trip to Italy in the summer of 2017. A renovation of the tower and the buildings next to it was underway at the time. The photo was taken from the hotel's penthouse.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Construction of the tower occurred in three stages over 199 years beginning in 1173.The tower began to sink after construction had progressed to the second floor in 1178. This was due to a mere three-metre foundation, set in weak, unstable subsoil, a design that was flawed from the beginning. Prior to restoration work performed between 1990 and 2001, the tower leaned at an angle of 5.5 degrees, but the tower now leans at about 3.99 degrees.
We did not manage to go up the tower because you need to book a time slot in advance! (Plus I was too scared )
