Pindaya caves at the last count contained 8700 statues of Buddha. The collection contains statues made of alabaster, teak, marble, brick, lacquer and cement, both large and small. The collection is still growing as new figures are installed by Buddhist organisations all over the world.

We spent several hours tracking this fellow in the Pinda reserve before nightfall, our hawk-eyed tracker riding shotgun on his perch bolted to the front-left bumper, spotting various signs of recent activity as we motored through the bush. We were eventually guided to this berm above a water hole, driving with only a spotlight to show our way. The lion appeared out of the dark, resting on the edge of a raised perch, lowly calling to the other members of his pride.
