Clinging to the sides of the narrow canyon box elders (Acer negundo) provide a bit of visual and biological diversity in Paria canyon in an area mostly dominated by physical features molded by erosion. Box elders, cottonwoods (Populus fremontii), and several species of shrubby willows help stabilize areas of elevated sand, preserving them from being swept away with the flash floods of the summer monsoon season. Only a few hours of sunlight occur during the spring and summer in these river bends to provide the fuel for growth and reproduction of the plants, yet it seems enough.

“To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.” - Henri Cartier-Bresson

Scape_lands

The “scape_lands“ is a readymade-fotowork series developed since 2010.

The theme is the hermetical law of correspondence (we exist in all planes, astral as well as physical) I discovered the scape_lands in the urban environments, the streets of Berlin.

Cleo has been very lazy during the holidays but now it's time to resume our normal life. According to Cleo there is nothing "normal" about a fitness training, though, and I seriously doubt that physical activity has played any major role in her New Year's resolutions, apart - maybe - from the resolution to avoid it whenever she can. You can't let a human have the last say after all.

The White-faced Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna viduata) is a highly social and vocal waterfowl species easily recognized by its striking black-and-white head pattern. Unlike many other ducks, it has long legs and a long neck, giving it an upright, almost goose-like silhouette.

Physical Appearance

Head:

A bright white face and crown contrast sharply with a black rear head and nape.

Body:

Features a rich chestnut or rufous breast, dark brown to black wings and back, and distinctive fine white barring on its black flanks.

Legs and Bill:

It has long, bluish-grey legs and a long, dark grey bill.

Similar Sexes:

Males and females are virtually identical in plumage, though juveniles have less contrasted head patterns.

Behavior and Communication

Whistling Call:

They are named for their clear, high-pitched, three-note whistling call (swee-swee-sweeoo), which they use frequently in flight and while feeding to maintain group cohesion.

Social Structure:

They are extremely gregarious, often gathering in dense flocks of hundreds or even thousands.

Bonding:

Mating pairs are monogamous for life and strengthen their bonds through frequent mutual preening (allopreening).

Activity:

They are largely nocturnal, flying to foraging areas at night and resting in large flocks on banks during the day.

Diet and Habitat

Diet:

Primarily vegetarian, they eat seeds, grasses, grains (like rice), and aquatic plants. They also supplement their diet with mollusks, crustaceans, and insects by diving or dabbling in shallow water.

Habitat:

They inhabit a wide range of freshwater environments, including lakes, swamps, marshes, floodplains, and artificial sites like rice paddies and sewage works.

Distribution:

They have a unique "disjunctive" distribution, being native to both sub-Saharan Africa and South America, though they do not migrate between these continents.

So they said let's get physical and sweat. Have you ever done Yoga? They teach you healthy mind/healthy body and visa versa.

So here you go... and you can't go have the burn without your friends in arms with you... One zonked out 15 minutes into the exercise. One started to combust... and of course my faithful little buddies dancing on the music box. Meow decided now was a good time for a cat nap in the sun

While visiting Big Sky Montana back in 2015 we were told by a park ranger at Yellowstone NP where the grizzly bears were taken if they became too curious with or had interactions with stupid people doing stupid things in the park. Having seen and photographed my first Black bear in the park the day before…in a crowd of 50 other tourists’ shoulder to shoulder, my desire to see and capture a grizzly was off the charts!

The next morning a friend and I jumped in the car and headed to the truly in the middle of nowhere location provided by the ranger. For miles and miles, there were no fences, power lines, chem trails…no sign at all of what time period we were in. The timing of our quest was perfect as an early morning passing shower ignited a faint sweet smell to the cleanest of air…truly heaven on earth! The granting of a double rainbow was just sensory overload!

Looking down into the stream below, I noticed a beautiful granite bolder just below the surface of the storm’s runoff. In an example set by my mother since childhood, I climbed in and collected the rock to take home to provide a physical piece to the memory of a special place and time.

Today this rock is in our yard. Even though it’s been 10 years, I can still smell that sweet Montana post storm, morning air every time I see it.

The over 140-year history of Mohawk involvement in ironwork dates to the 1880s, when Mohawk workers from Canada and upstate New York began to travel to major cities across North America. In the 1920s, Mohawk families from Canada formed the ethnic enclave of "Little Caughnawaga" in Brooklyn, as many Mohawk ironworkers were employed in the construction of skyscrapers in Manhattan. According to the Journal of American Indian Education, Mohawk culture values "physical bravery" and the ethic of taking risks for the greater good of the people. In the 21st century, Mohawk workers remain involved in high-rise and bridge construction.

This swamp sparrow - the same one as in the previous picture - reminded me that calling is quite a physical exercise for birds. I captured it several times when calling and every single time it squeezed its eye into a non-circular shape with its eye-ring protruding quite a bit.

Camber Sands

Camber is a small resort in East Sussex and is not only famous for its sand dunes but its connection to the Pop and Film Industry.

Close to the River Rother the dunes stretch for 3 miles (just over 4.5km) and are unique to East Sussex. Part of the dunes are classified a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the residue are a Site of Nature Conservation Importance.

They were fortified during WWII because of their resemblance to both Desert and Normandy and intense training went on there. There is a ship which lies of the coast called the ‘Avon’ which went down in 1852 and the wreck can be seen at low tide.

Some of the films that were shot here include: The Longest Day; The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner; The Theory of Everything and for those who enjoy a more cultural frame of mind then go no further than ‘Follow That Camel’. What a treat.

Pop Artists include: Suede; Nick Heyward; Fatboy Slim; Paul McCartney and Wings and Squeeze, quite a line up. A terrific place for a beach holiday as there are lots of other things to do with kites, such as surfing; landboarding; buggying and other more physical exercise. Me I have a deckchair and a camera what more is needed. Oh yes, a picnic.

The physical diffraction and light scattering effects on spider webs depend on many things, like incident light angle, thickness of the threads (and thus the spider species) and so on.

The physical limits

Thanks to the confinement at home I have discovered a bush of begonias. This one is invaded by a swarm of tiny snails that feed on it. At first I wanted to eradicate them but later I decided to observe and photograph them. They are minuscule in size of just 4mm and this implies developing all the technique I have in macroscopic photography. I have worked with my Nikon D750 and D500 cameras, the TC 1´7 and a Kenko 36 mm extension ring. All this assembly has been stabilized by a BENRO LB200 rail and a Leofoto LH40 ball joint. I am enjoying a lot.
