Any visit to Death Valley would be remiss without tramping out with tripod and gear to capture a low level shot in Bad Water Basin at the golden hour. The challenge is to get there early enough and be willing to hike out further into the center of the basin than the dozens of other fine photographers who are doing the exact same thing. For me, about 2 miles. The trouble with photographic bucket listing is that when you take a photo of something thousands of other talented photographers have taken, you will invariably conclude that yours sucks despite any technical proficiency you have. Which leads to pixel counting, camera and lens envy, Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS), compulsive YouTube watching, and large format film photography. Retirement looks grim.

2023 Photo 124/241: Over the years, the columbine we planted along a garden wall has spread as cover all around the yard in colors ranging from white to pink to purple to blue. c.2023 John M. Hudson | jmhudson1@mindspring.com
A favorite photo from London, taken from about halfway up the shard. I really like the way all the train tracks are lit up… reminds me of TRON. via Instagram ift.tt/1UgsHa4
Yes, I realise this topic has already been talked over many times on our humble photo gallery. This time however, we have another big developement in front of us.
The famous Polish ban on photography had not really been in power, no matter what any person said. You were fully permitted to photograph anything you want, as long as you were on public grounds, which is a reasonable idea. All is to change now though.
My first post in this "no photo" topic has been published on 6.02.2024, when the Polish Ministry of National Defence published a draft of the ordinance containing the description of a "Photography forbidden" sign, along with many other things. This ordinance is what is required for the photo ban to be implemented in practice, as per a law published all the way back in 2022. The draft remained all that, just a draft, up until... this very day, 3.04.2025. It is now a full-blown ordinance of the allmighty Minister himself.
The published version can be seen on the official government service Dziennik Ustaw - dziennikustaw.gov.pl/DU
The ordinance itself, numbered 432 can be seen here - dziennikustaw.gov.pl/DU/2025/432 - contains a PDF file with the ordinance and a graphical display of the sign.
From now on, any person responsible for the security of an object of critical infrastructure (whatever that means...) will be able to hang out these legal signs and there is nothing the poor citizen can do about this, even when standing on public grounds.
*The ordinance comes into effect 14 days after its publishing, you have time until the 17th of April. For real now.*

Off with Runyon at his favorite place on earth - Swift Run Dog Park (near the intersection of Platt and Ellsworth and across the street from Lillie Park). Photos taken on a nice Fall afternoon - Thursday September 30th, 2021. Tagging these pictures either for morning or afternoon so people can more easily find their pets!
The Jat - one of the hidden tribes in Gujarat (India).
Dhaneta Jat girl.
The Jats who live in Kutch are particularly conscious of their identity as a group and their sense of unity comes from a perception of shared historical traditions and a belief in common ancestry.
Originally the Jats were herders who lived in an area called Half in Iran. Five hundred years ago these shepherds migrated from Half and came to Sindh and Kutch to search for new grazing lands. They crossed the Rann of Kutch and settled there taking up farming, they became known as Dhaneta Jats. Some have devted themselves to the study of the Koran and are known as the Fakirani Jats. All the Jats in Kutch are Muslims and have similar marriage and dowry customs.
The Dhanetas are the largest of the Jat Communities. They live throughtout north western Kutch. The Dhanetas live in the Banni, herd cattle. The men care for the animals and women remain in camp looking after their families.
