The Bohemian Waxwings are only here in winters, often seen in large flocks over urban areas or parks in search of fruit trees. They feed on berries and stay until the food is picked clean and then move on again.
The Waxwings are incredible social birds. Bird photographers and birders are attracted by their photogenic good looks.
I came across hundreds of them feeding on their favourite mountain-ash berries in Hermitage Park earlier this month, and I was happy to 'catch' this individual feeding in a nice setting with a clutter-free background. I particularly like the bright overcast winter day, which provided the nice lighting as well as great opportunity to capture images of these beautiful birds.

Ta Prohm (prasat taprohm) is the modern name of the temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara.
Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII:125:388 as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm is in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors.
UNESCO inscribed Ta Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992. Today, it is one of the most visited complexes in Cambodia’s Angkor region. The conservation and restoration of Ta Prohm is a partnership project of the Archaeological Survey of India and the APSARA (Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Siem Reap).
The temple of Ta Prohm was used as a location in the film Tomb Raider. Although the film took visual liberties with other Angkorian temples, its scenes of Ta Prohm were quite faithful to the temple's actual appearance, and made use of its eerie qualities.
Some believe that one of the carvings resembles a stegosaurus.
Cheverny is one of 43 chateaux of the Loire Valley. It is interesting inside but very attractive outside.
It's Spring and all my six wonderful Lesser Tenrecs are now awake from torpor. They are healthy, lively and hungry!! I took a few images earlier today of 3 of my 6. This is Azizi (top) and Boo. I have so missed them!!

This lovely Hibiscus was not in a tended garden but thrived in a tangle of various blooming and non-blooming plants(i.e. "weeds"). In other words, alhough a cultivated flower, this one was growing "wild".
It looked especially fresh in the light drizzle that had the opposite effect on me :-).

Eastern Phoebes interesting fact: they rarely occur in groups, and even mated pairs spend little time together. Sounds like some couples I know. :)
It's been a few years since I saw an osprey in the Noordwaard/Biesbosch. Two weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised when I saw an osprey far away eating a fish high up in a tree, but that photo is just too worthless to post here.
But apparently this osprey wasn't planning on not being portrayed, because about fifteen minutes later she came flapping loudly by, and I was actually attentive enough to capture her in her full glory. She made another attempt to win me over by splashing into the water, only there was no big fish hanging under the landing gear.
Later I came across her again, when she was scanning the area in a tree not too far away. Finally I was lucky enough to capture an adult sea eagle. That makes your day!

In the little white house to the left of the laundromat lived a little old lady named Ida Mae. While photographing the beautiful old patina and signage of the decrepit building, Ida Mae came out of her house to see what I was up to. Upon informing her of my desire to record historic structures and to post them so that others around the world can see and appreciate them, she began to recount to me the entire history of the place and of how she and her deceased husband ran the business for years and were able to live next door and raise their family while doing so. This is in extreme southern Illinois where the southern dialect prevails and Ida Mae sure had a charming one. Her southern hospitality was on full display as she recounted her years of involvement with the old laundromat. When I left finally, I began to realize that I was more moved by the charm of this old southern lady than I was by the exceedingly photogenic structure I came here to record. All old objects have a human story. Sometimes we get to see it and hear it as we go about our photographic adventures. This very image shows forth the importance of our work. We are no less involved in social documentation than Dorothea Lange in her work during the thirties with the dust bowl refugees. The signage on this humble historic structure is now long gone and so is Ida Mae. The current owners have completely remodeled the old building destroying the old signage and patina in the process. Let us pause to reflect on the importance of our work and salute the lives of the working people that have made it possible. God bless you Ida Mae. Heaven holds a place for those who pray.
Pier restaurant in Noumea, New Caledonia, before and after sunset. The sky was quite nice, but it's not so easy to find a photogenic foreground in Noumea, it's not an ugly city, but not the prettiest in the world either
The bridge was renovated a couple of years back, the new grey paint is less photogenic than the rust, except on a wet foggy morning ;-)
