Sie wurde von William A. Bugee entworfen und war bei ihrer Fertigstellung im Jahr 1966 die längste durchgehende Fachwerkbrücke der Welt. Heute ist sie die älteste noch bestehende Brücke in Fachwerkarchitektur in Nordamerika.

Der beeindruckendste Abschnitt befindet sich dabei im Südteil, nahe Astoria in Oregon. Dort steigen die Fahrspuren imposant an und die Brücke ermöglicht den Schiffen auf dem Columbia River die Durchfahrt. Im nördlichen und deutlich längeren Bereich verlaufen die Fahrspuren der Brücke über vier Kilometer fast schon wie ein Damm über das Wasser.

It was designed by William A. Bugee and, upon its completion in 1966, was the longest continuous truss bridge in the world. Today, it is the oldest surviving truss bridge in North America.
