My senior cat (12 years) became a diabetic 2 years ago. Recently she has developed an aversion to her second insulin shot of the day. As the time approaches for it, she goes into hiding. Amazing how she can tell time!

This tiny Mycena mushroom suffers from glossophobia, the fear of public speaking (from the Greek for 'tongue fear'). A serious lack of confidence has virtually crippled him in the past, but with with preparation, practice and positive thinking (and beta-blockers don't hurt!) he can cope with standing up in front of an unruly group.

Arithmophobia or Numerophobia is the exaggerated, constant and often irrational fear of numbers. The words Arithmophobia and Numerophobia both have Latin/Greek origins where the root word stands for numbers, and phobos is Greek for “deep aversion or fear”.

The fear of numbers can place many restrictions on the phobic’s life and may even affect his standard of living. Specific number phobias like the fear of number 13 or 666 etc could be fuelled by cultural or religious beliefs or even TV shows and movies about them. She/he often feels embarrassed to admit the problem causing one to become socially withdrawn. Hereditary, genetic factors and brain chemistry can sometimes lead to this phobia.

Once in a while it is necessary to update the branches of your tree. While loppers are only suitable for branches with a diameter of more than 4 or 5 cm, the lop saw can easily handle thicker wood. But it remains to be careful with the sharp teeth of the saw

I wanted to combine two phobias, the fear of rats and fear of enclosed spaces. So I photographed a card (it was a "save the date for a birthday" card, can you believe it?) through a rolled up sheet of blue paper. The opening on top measured 2" across and I cropped it a lot afterwards. The rats are 1 cm long. I don't have a fear of rats but I do dream of getting stuck in pipes and such. Not elevators, pipes. I am fine in elevators but I could never squeeze through tiny spaces in caves. Nightmare stuff!

Hope you Halloween is suitably scary and happy!

Teraphobia is defined, simply, as the fear of monsters.

It can extend to a fear of the dark, spurred by a fear of what may be in the dark.

I made this monster out of Blue Tack and a few pins which I have to add a black dot to resemble the pupil.

It does not look too scary, so I added this bubbles that was floating from a soaking unwashed pot from last night's dinner........there were 2 light sources...natural room light and a LED torch placed at 6 o'clock. A dark background complete the picture.

Many thanks for your visit, comments and faves....it is always appreciated..

People with anthophobia, a fear of flowers, may be reacting to earlier experiences involving flowers and insect stings, allergies or difficult settings, like funerals. They may get anxious or fearful when near flowers or seeing images of flowers.

I'm so grateful I don't suffer from this phobia.

Chronophobia: Fear of time

The bark marpissa (Marpissa muscosa) is a common spider in the Netherlands, belonging to the jumping spiders that can regularly be found indoors. The male grows to 6 to 8 mm, while the female reaches 8 to 13 mm. She prefers to stay on sunny vertical surfaces such as trees or poles, provided there is a hole nearby where she can quickly crawl away in case of danger. The prey is stalked and then pounced on. Like all jumping spiders, the bark marpissa has extremely well-developed eyesight. Of the eight spider eyes, two, the anterior middle eyes, are much larger than the others. The posterior side eyes are set far back, they are visible on the image on the cephalothorax between the implants of legs I and II. The bark marpissa is the type species of the genus Marpissa.

So many phobias, and so many choices. I should have checked the English list of phobias on Wikipedia first, because there is a phobia called "Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia" (fear of the number 666) which would have been worth picking for the word alone, and it would also have been an apt choice for Halloween ;) But since I already had a vague idea of which phobia I wanted to illustrate when I read about the theme, I only looked into the German list for the correct term for the latter: which is trypophobia, a fear of holes or textures with a pattern of holes – and I'd strongly advise you not to look for images of that particular fear, because... nope :)

So trypophobia is the main phobia in this photo. When we once had "Mesh" as an MM theme some time ago, I'd noticed that the biggest of the many tiny holes in the mesh of a small laundry sachet looked like a skull when seen from a certain angle. I'd picked a different subject for the theme back then, but I immediately had the idea to use the "laundry sachet skull" when I read about the Phobia theme. Btw, I'm sure there also is a phobia against losing single socks in the washing machine, even if you won't find it on the Wikipedia list ;)

Other phobias that might work with this photo as well are "necrophobia" (fear of death or the dead – and doesn't Mr. Skull remind you of a mummy as well?), dentophobia (fear of the dentist, although poor Mr. Skull has already lost all his teeth, probably because of eating too many "Mon Cherie" chocolates), achluphobia (fear of darkness), and eisoptrophobia (fear of mirrors or seeing one's reflection in the mirror ̵– which is me every morning)...

Stupidly (most stupidly, I should note), I thought that the image I had already taken and processed last night wasn't sharp enough. So I still took several more photos today – alas, none of them were any sharper so I picked the aforementioned first photo from yesterday anyway. Stupid, isn't it? It's a single High Resolution shot processed in Color Efex mainly with the tonal contrast filter which added a nice "oomph" to the image. I chose the "High Resolution" mode so I'd be able to crop the image so that there would be only one "skull" in the frame (the length of Mr. Skull's eyes and mouth is 1,5 cm/0,059 inches each). So what you see is a 3229x3229 image cropped from the original 10368x7776 SOOC photo. I did this because you can get extremely close to the subject with the 30mm macro lens – which in this case meant that the lens blocked out all the light coming from the left and right (which I'd put up to highlight the white mesh). So I had to increase the working distance which made the tiny holes too tiny for cropping out a single "skull" with the regular resolution. Setup: White mesh laundry sachet wrapped around the red, transparent chocolate box lid; the third light source was a soft white photo light from above.

HMM and Happy Halloween, Everyone, and have a nice week ahead!

I found these tiny fungi in the park and got close enough for a photo despite my phobia of them. I have actually got much better since I have been taking photos as I can now go near them, but I still can't have mushrooms in the house.
