"St Peter’s Church was built in 1209, but just some walls and some pillars have remained from that time. Initially it was a small hall, possibly with a separate bell tower. The current basilica was created during renovations in the 15th century.
The church hall leaves a grand impression, the middle part of it reaches a height of 30 meters. The altar part with five chapels demonstrates verticality of the Gothic style and fine profiles.
In 1997 Riga St Peter’s Church was included on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
Starting from the 15th century up to 1941, there had been a total of six wind vanes – roosters. The first rooster was bent by a storm, the second was blown down from the steeple, the third was removed because the storm had damaged it, the fourth rooster fell down in the church yard during a storm, the fifth one collapsed, while the sixth rooster had been repaired, but came down when the tower collapsed. In 1970, a new rooster was erected, it was renovated and gilded for the 800th anniversary of the church." www.latvia.travel
St Peter’s is the oldest church in Shaftesbury where there were eleven churches in mediaeval times. It was built at the top of Gold Hill as a pilgrim church outside the walls of the Benedictine Abbey. John Schip is the first known incumbent (1305). However, there is evidence of an earlier building on this site, in the form of ancient foundations under the nave floor.
It is evident that the town experienced great poverty in the 14th and 15th centuries. The French war and then the Black Death of 1348-1357, which deprived the town of masons and depleted the population, were major disasters. In consequence, the completion of the church was prolonged and much of the building is of the decorated and perpendicular style.
Of the present structure, the lower part of the tower is the oldest; the nave and its arcades are of the 14th century, the Clerestory was added in the 15th/16th centuries. The panelled oak roofs of the nave St-Peters-planand the North Aisle are also of the same date. In early times the walls were brightly coloured but painted over in Oliver Cromwell’s time. When restoration took place the North Parapet could not be retained due to the poor state of the stone.

The ancient Church of St Peter in the Suffolk village of Bruisyard stands on gently rising ground overlooking the River Alde. Its antiquity is possibly confirmed by Saxon features evident in the tower's flint work. Although some believe it to be Norman, others believe the origin of the round tower has an even earlier date.
Round towers were built from late Saxon times until about 1400, and there are a total of 181 still standing, more or less! - in England, of which 38 are in Suffolk.
A church at Haresfield in Gloucestershire was first recorded in 1161 when Henry of Hereford, the lord of the manor, granted it to Llanthony Priory. Some parts of the fabric of the church mentioned in the 12th century survive in today’s Church of St Peter.
St. Peter’s Basilica is one of the holiest temples for Christendom and one of the largest churches in the world. It is where the Pope presides many liturgies all year round.
The construction of the new basilica began in 1506, when the old basilica had been torn down, and was finished in 1626. It was consecrated on 18 November, 1626. Several renowned architects designed the temple, highlighting the works of Bramante, Michelangelo and Carlo Maderno.
The basilica was called St Peter’s after one of Jesus’s twelve disciples known as Saint Peter, who became one of the founders of the Catholic Church and was executed in Rome and buried where the Basilica now stands.
Built in 1901, St. Peter’s Chapel is the oldest Naval chapel in the United States. It is home to one of the largest collections of Tiffany stained glass windows under one roof and is filled with historic naval memorials.
Located in the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California, St. Peter’s was the second chapel built on a U.S. Navy property. The single-story chapel was designed by Albert Sutton. The walls are lined with 29 striking stained-glass windows, most of which were created by Tiffany Studios.
Alongside the Nativity scene is the Vatican's Christmas tree, a 23m-high red fir, following a tradition begun by Pope St John Paul II in 1982.

A winner of the Best Kept Village competition, Willersey is a characterful Gloucestershire village with a Worcester postcode situated southwest of Evesham and only 1.7 miles from Broadway. This parish church is beautifully positioned at the end of Church Lane and is surrounded by a traditional churchyard.
St Peter's has a 15th century bell tower with traditional pinnacles and gargoyles. The little north porch is 13th century. The filled-up Norman door can be seen on the south side of the church. The font is pure Norman and the internal pillars and arches are 13th century. These arches are quite remarkable for a village church.
Peter’s Stone is a circular limestone dome in the Wardlow Mires, northern end of Cressbrook Dale. It is also referred to as Gibbet Rock and shown on the OS map as Peter’s Stone. This is where the last gibbet in the county stood and local legend has it this was the last gibbeting. A gibbet was a gallows used to display the bodies of criminals after their execution and this is where they were left until long after execution with their bones rattling against the iron cage serving as a deterrent to other would be criminals.

Northamptonshire was once known as "the county of squires and spires" on account of the numerous country estates and the beautiful stone-built churches with spires. St Peter's at Walgrave is one of the latter. The village has a population of just over 800, and on a personal note has a very fine pub - the Royal Oak - where I was given a surprise family party on a very important certain birthday a few years ago.
The Grade I-listed church has a fine late 13th century west tower, though most of it dates from the 14th century. Particular mention is made of its beautiful windows in the entry in British Listed Buildings. See britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101281745-church-of-st-peter...
The parish of Harbertonford in Devon was constituted in 1859, carved out of the neighbouring parish of Harberton. The parish church of St Peter was constructed at that date with the majority of its funding donated by one person, Mrs Thomascene Anthony of Great Englebourne, who gave £2,000; equivalent to some £230,000 today.
Later, parishioners raised enough to pay for the installation of an organ to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. Constructed of stone, this Grade II listed church has a spire with a single bell.

The St Peter's Church is the highest church in Riga. First mentioned in ancient chronicles in 1209, St. Peter's was a Catholic church until 1523, when it turned Lutheran.

This photo was taken on the roof of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. I thought it would be a good one for a HFF image. The three figures belong to the row of figures that overlook the square. The figures are the apostles, Jesus, and John The Baptist.

This is our local village church, St Peter's, which dates from the late 1100s though we know the tower was built in the 1300s. The church is Grade II*-listed. The were originally two villages - Upper and Lower Isham. A manor corresponding with Upper Isham certainly predates the Norman Conquest and included a mill down on the River Ise. Our old farm cottage just off the main road dates from 1668 and other than the church is one of the oldest buildings left in the village. The vast majority of the earlier buildings would have been wattle and daub, and have long since disappeared.
