This man and tractor appeared to be the last man on site, after the huge clean up operation by Vertaise.
This site a chemical factory. Some say one of the most contaminated land in Europe. The whole factory was demolished and the soil 'cleaned'. It is a large site and all that can be seen at the moment is bare earth. It is now destined for housing.

The Former Bayer CropScience site is located along the A10 on the outskirts of Hauxton. Since the 1940s the site was used for the production of agrochemicals including pesticides and herbicides, which over time have contaminated the soil and ground water.
The site was determined as Contaminated Land in 2003 under Part IIa of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and designated a Special Site for regulation by the Environment Agency.
The site had to be remediated since it posed a threat to the Riddy Brook and River Cam.

When over-the-counter sprays didn't help, we had to call in an expert to rid our garage of increasingly intrusive yellow jackets.

I would have loved to have taken a peek inside this mill, since I imagine there is still some wonderful machinery in there.
It is pretty secure with lots of boarding and steel shutters, padlocks etc.
Fisons owned the chemical plant near to this mill in the late seventies when the government introduced new laws about chemical plants, which included regulating how close residential and other property could be.
Because of this legislation, Fisons were obliged to buy out the neighboring properties with residential housing.
Its a lovely building, so I hope it will come back into use now the site next door has been 'decontaminated'.
