The Grammar School of Perth stood on the site of this building. The Admirable Crichton is said to have been taught at this school. The school was demolished by Cromwell in 1652 and rebuilt in 1773. It was transferred to Perth Academy in Rose Terrace in 1807. The old buildings were converted into a theatre and used as such from 1810-1819 and were burned in 1823. St Ann's Chapel was situated between the Grammar School and St John's Church.
