Another test of my new D700, and also my new lens 14-24 f/2.8, a building on the shore of the lake with extreme perspective, I think it looks cool like this!
This is a school where Marlon goes once a week to play football. They discourage the taking of pictures big time. Around here anybody within half a mile of a school seen with a camera is immediately treated as a potential pedophile. The paranoid world we live in.
Two Seattle Icons: The 1962 Space Needle and Chief Seattle, the Duwamish leader for whom the city was named. While eating lunch in a little Thai restaurant in Tillicum Square, I looked out the window to see the juxtaposition of these icons as in the photo on the left. I tried a few different POV's when I went back outside, and the photo on the right was the most successful.
Chief Seattle, born in the late 1700's, was a warrior, orator and statesman. He is perhaps best known for his 1854 speech when the land on which Seattle is located was purchased by the US government. At the time, a sketchy translation was made from the original Lushootseed language into Chinook jargon (the limited trade language of the area); several years later it was translated into very flowery English. A fictionalized version of his speech was written by screenwriter Ted Perry for the 1972 movie "Home." No one knows exactly what he really said, but the movie version presents a passionate and much-loved environmental plea, an excerpt of which is quoted below:
"The President in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky? the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people ..... The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each glossy reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father. The rivers are our brothers. They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give the rivers the kindness that you would give any brother. If we sell you our land, remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life that it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also received his last sigh. The wind also gives our children the spirit of life. So if we sell our land, you must keep it apart and sacred, as a place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow flowers. Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth. This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, following
the debate, including a three month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage
daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his college
graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while
he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain
killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five
were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major
political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early
1990s.)
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to publicly display a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer
distribution?
You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected a reality,
if the tables were turned, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as
they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes
qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative characteristics in another when there is a color difference.
And, think of this - the candidates' educational backgrounds:
Barack Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in
International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899
Sarah Palin:

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in
the land as well as our standing in the world.
as you approach you think it is a dead end but the post in view is hiding the other post 3 feet behind it fools my father in law every time(boring photo but very clever)
This is a hand drawn, drop-down perspective, rendered with colored pencil on canson paper.
I designed this kitchen as part of a house for a school design project. As drawn, the glass roof and wall are not structurally sound (I am not an architect or an engineer.) There are several other design issues that in hindsight I now recognize, but as a whole I am happy with both the overall design and this perspective.
