Young Chippy surveys the area after scrambling into the hole to avoid me.

Big close up on the head of this comorant. The photo is funny to my eyes because with this close up we cant see his body.

Gros gros plan sur la tête de ce comoran. La photo est amusante à mes yeux car avec ce gros plan on ne voit pas son corps.

Hi everyone... I want to give everyone an update... I still struggle with chronic pain on a daily basis. I have been without a source of income for several months so if you are in a position to help, I have setup an account to accept donations, even as little as the price of a coffee. Anything would be greatly appreciated. See my "About" page on Flickr for the link. Thank you. www.flickr.com/people/jax_chile/

Flores de las Garzas - November 2018 - Coming Night BC - TS2 LR

This Cormorant was swimming in the channel at Hayward Regional Shoreline. It was a nice, sunny day and a good day for birding. It was the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on this particular Saturday, during which volunteers around the state pick up trash, restore habitats and plant trees. We got a few pictures before hundreds of the wonderful volunteers converged on the Shoreline and scared all the birds away. Double-crested Cormorants float low on the surface of water, like a submarine, and dive to catch small fish. After fishing, they stand on docks, rocks, and tree limbs with wings spread open to dry. Their eyes are a striking color of aquamarine blue.

Periscope up. Isle Lake Alberta

It's a periscope, I think one might call it. I didn't wait in line to look through this thing as this woman did at a recent World War II reenactment. But I did see these devices on several of the German tanks and armored military vehicles that were at the event. It allowed the driver to see ahead, I presume, without the risk of raising his head above the vehicle top when there was shooting going on.

Bathing Greater Flamingo.

(No, he's not diving - his body is just out of the frame... 😄)

This Green Heron was one of a pair that appeared to be engaged in a mating ritual. This Green Heron momentarily lost sight of the other, and elongated its neck to find its mate.

I don't want to dive in first

You don't want to hear these words

It's only going to make it worse

You don't want to live that curse

Cormorant just surfaced at Rutland water.

This young Great-crested Grebe popped up briefly and disappeared again...Carsethorn, Solway Firth

I don't know what it is, but the contrast with the brilliant stones and snow on the train track caught my attention.

On/Off - Thank you very much for your visit and for taking the time to comment! Much appreciated!

Chestnut Teal (Anas castanea) female

As I was walking back along the D 1 Drain Reserve on Saturday this little head suddenly popped up from the grass.

This greylag was keeping guard over the goslings.

It was fun to watch this Anhinga fish. It was like a submarine with it's head like a periscope, silently coming up to get some fresh air and take a quick look around, and then lowering silently back to the deep. I couldn't see the bird in the water so it was hard to tell where the head would pop up.

Taken 16 April 2019 at Circle B Bar Reserves, Lakeland, Florida.

Hadn't seen these wee guys for days then spotted them in another yard very late last night. I wasn't hiding behind the bush. They were :)

Leaf on back pond, Schoepfle Garden, October 2006.

While watching some of the ducks swimming around the lake I was pleased when one swam over near enough to where I was sitting to get a few shots.

I had to laugh when a turtle popped its head up out of the water. The duck almost has a surprised look, turning to see what was popping up out of the water so close.

Alright, so it's really just some sticks and a pipe standing in the water.

Alviso, California.

A Euresian bittern (Botaurus stellaris, bölömbika) extends the periscopic neck.

We were sitting in a great hide though the open front, lack of heating and the -3 degree Celsius temperature made it a tough challenge to take photos! :) We had bad luck again with weather...dense fog settled over the lake seriously impacting the quality of photos.

If you like this photo, your faves, comments and observations are more than welcome!

But NO AWARDS, NO BANNERS, NO IMAGES, NO GROUP REFERENCES where you saw it, please.

Papa Roach ft. Skylar Grey - Periscope

I want to feel your wreckage

It's a firestorm

I'm falling like a loaded weapon

In your arms

Paranoid it might be reckless

No matter what I say

It's only going to steal your breath

And slip away

I don't want to dive in first

You don't want to hear these words

It's only going to make it worse

You don't want to live that curse

You're telling me to keep my hope

Cause you've got a heart of gold

But maybe you should let me go

I'll love you through a periscope

You wear your heart so fearless

It's like it doesn't breathe

You push away my demons when they torture me

Don't think that I can fight this pressure

Pulling me underneath

It's like I've got the whole world tied around my feet

I don't want to dive in first

You don't want to hear these words

It's only going to make it worse

You don't want to live that curse

You're telling me to keep my hope

Because you've got a heart of gold

But maybe you should let me go

I'll love you through a periscope

Oh, through a periscope

Oh, I-I'll love you through a periscope

Oh, through a periscope

Oh, I-I'll love you through a periscope

I don't want to dive in first

You don't want to hear these words

It's only going to make it worse

You don't want to live that curse

You're telling me to keep my hope

Cause you've got a heart of gold

But maybe you should let me go

Always keep the head above water! Well, sort of that...

This swan is surely doing that perfectly!

Dieser Schwan hält sich auf jeden Fall an diese Regel.
