UR-KDM, an Antonov An-12BK, resting between missions at the Cargo West facilities of Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario.
It had arrived two days earlier as CVK7143 (CAVOK Airlines) from Bridgetown, Barbados. The 2,170NM / 2,500SM / 4,025 KM journey took eight hours to complete. It departed the following day as CVK7144 for Santa Maria, Portugal and Accra, Ghana.
This military vet began its career in 1972 with the Soviet Air Force as 50 RED. The tail gun turret has been painted over.
The original civilian version of this aircraft, the An-10A Ukraina, was built as a 100-seat airliner for Aeroflot 60 years ago!
Another day, another waterfall! Pearson’s falls was an easy hike for our two year old grandson. Pay $5 per person and you have restrooms at the beginning and trash recepticals at the end. It is located just outside Saluda, North Carolina.

Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson are the fashion designers behind the celebrated label Easton Pearson.
'Vibrant, detailed patterns feature heavily in my paintings and with this one I had an eminent catalogue of textiles to draw from. I had access to their Brisbane workshop and their look-books spanning the last 27 years, so I could immerse myself in their collection. Pam and Lydia work together closely and the clothes they make reflect this personal relationship. I hope to represent something of this synthesis in their creative partnership. Through our discussions we agreed that they should be handling and interacting with the textiles. I've painted them in the midst of a swirling mass of their fabulous, bold designs', says Rohan.
Born in Beaudesert, Queensland in 1990, this is Rohan's first time in the Archibald Prize.

This photo was taken back in late September. It isolates the lower section cascades of Pearson Falls outside of Saluda, NC. The overall water flow was a bit low so isolations worked pretty well.

It was my first time visiting Pearson's Falls in Saluda North Carolina. I was pleasantly surprised at how big the waterfall is compared to how it looks it photos. There had been several weeks of heavy rains in the mountains so the river had a serious flow which made photographing the falls up close a challenge. The falls itself was a beautiful subject but I really loved this area just downstream from the waterfall. Something about the lush green and the way the water cascades over this section of the river really caught my eye.

While working through my photo files, I ran across this photo taken at Pearson Falls in Saluda, NC a few years ago. As I was looking at these older photos, I was amazed at the poor quality of so many of them. So at least it shows I'm improving I a bit over time, which is much of the fun of photography...there's always something to learn. But between football games, I thought I'd post this one. Can't wait for some cooler weather to come back.

Pearson's Falls is a beautiful 90-foot waterfall. It is an easy 1/3-mile hike through an amazing forest with lots of cascades to photograph along the way.. It's located near U.S. 276 between the towns of Saluda and Tryon. It is only around 35 miles south of Asheville and 15 miles south of Hendersonville.
