Interestingly enough, the peacock is sometimes regarded as a symbol of the cosmos; the many eyespots can be seen as stars and planets, all populating a mock Universe. Color, beauty and wonder explode outward, as if from a singularity, every time the peacock unfurls its plumage.

One of San Antonio's most historic and beautiful attractions, the Quadrangle is ideal for families with children. The Quadrangle is home to deer, peacocks, guinea fowl, ducks and geese. The animals enjoy the visitors as much as the visitors enjoy them. The setting is so beautiful and historical that families with small children can enjoy the animals while military history buffs can explore the rich history of the grounds, walls and buildings. A sign close to the entrance states that no bread or crackers can be fed to the animals but it doesn't say anything about vegetables or fruits, which the deer and other Quadrangle animal residents enjoy. As soon as the animals see that you've got food, you'll be surrounded with two and four-legged friends looking for a handout. They'll eat out of your hand but they're gentle and won't get aggressive so having small children around is okay.

This guy and some of his pals like to hang out in the main flamingo habitat area. I missed them this year when they had their full plumage but even without those magnificent tail feathers I find them quite beautiful.

December 2025: I was very happy to get this young male Green Peafowl (known to many as a peacock) coming down from a tree after roosting overnight. You only have two chances for this, once in the morning when they come down, and at the end of the day when they fly back up to the tree. And this picture shows the beautiful plumage on these magnificent birds - Doi Inthanon, Thailand 🇹🇭

At a petting zoo, I for the first time got to be up close and personal with a fantastic peacock that had a fabulous feather display and personality! He begged to have his picture taken, and I was more than willing 😊
