This fossil is also known as Eldredgeops rana crassituberculata.

Trilobites are extinct marine arthropods. They first appear in Lower Cambrian rocks and the entire group went extinct at the end of the Permian. Trilobites had a calcitic exoskeleton and nonmineralizing parts underneath (legs, gills, gut, etc.). The calcite skeleton is most commonly preserved in the fossil record, although soft-part preservation is known in some trilobites (Ex: Burgess Shale and Hunsruck Slate). Trilobites had a head (cephalon), a body of many segments (thorax), and a tail (pygidium). Molts and carcasses usually fell apart quickly - most trilobite fossils are isolated parts of the head (cranidium and free cheeks), individual thoracic segments, or isolated pygidia. The name "trilobite" was introduced in 1771 by Johann Ernst Immanuel Walch and refers to the tripartite division of the trilobite body - it has a central axial lobe that runs longitudinally from the head to the tail, plus two side lobes (pleural lobes).

Seen here are famous trilobites whose remains are relatively common in the Middle Devonian-aged Silica Formation of northeastern Ohio. These are Phacops rana crassituberculata (also known as Eldredgeops, an unnecessary genus name based on taxonomic oversplitting). Phacops trilobite fossils occur with other typical Middle Paleozoic shallow marine invertebrates: brachiopods, bryozoans, crinoids, and corals.

Every year Cobb EMC sends an author to Russom Elementary School during their Partner in Education Literacy Week. This year's author, Brian Lies, was unable to attend due to schedule conflicts. Instead, 4th and 5th graders had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Lies from his home in Massachusetts. Mr. Lies talked about the process of writing and illustrating. He showed the students some of his manuscripts, and read them a short story he wrote and illustrated when he was in second grade. The students had the opportunity to ask Mr. Lies questions after his presentation. Many of the teachers and students were impressed with the Skype visit, rather than a “traditional” visit, because it gave them a glimpse into his personal life, and they were able to view him as a “real” person. As you probably know by now, last night’s EA Hearing was a great success for multiple reasons. First, because so many people showed up to be a part of such an important Paulding County event. Secondly, because the commercial opponents represented their side with expertise and integrity through both our expert and resident speakers. As always, we presented facts that back our viewpoints and opposition. But there’s another reason we must acknowledge, and that is the upstanding group of anti-commercial residents who selflessly volunteer their time and energy, often behind the scenes, to make events like last night’s as successful as possible. No challenge is ever larger than these individuals. No cause is ever too difficult to tackle. No obstacle is ever too big to conquer. These dedicated Paulding residents, who commit themselves to making our county a more open and ethical county for all, are our backbone and the driving force behind making Paulding County a better place to live. It’s these individuals and their strong conviction to settle for nothing less than justice, who played a major role in yesterday’s accomplishments. It’s these folks who worked tirelessly for weeks to engage the public to attend, in order to help protect Paulding’s quality of life. Without them, life would be the status quo in Paulding County. With them, the people have a voice once again, and we can’t thank them enough! From boots on the ground all last weekend to speaking to a crowd of hundreds last night, this proud group of Paulding warriors is beyond reproach! Paulding County Courthouse, Courthouse Square, Paulding, Ohio. This Richardsonian building was built erected in 1886. Designed by the E.O. Fallis Company and built by workers under the direction of general contractor Rudolph Ehrhart, the courthouse is a brick structure with a stone foundation and a roof of asphalt. Two-and-one-half stories tall with a central tower, the courthouse features nearly identical entrances on each of its four sides. Measuring 60 feet square, and 163 feet tall at the tip of its domed tower, the courthouse was patterned after the Lenawee County Courthouse in Michigan, which was also designed by the Fallis architects. In 1974, the Paulding County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

DARE Lesson Incorporates Role Models Deputy Mitch Moyer is a DARE instructor for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office. He recently taught a lesson at New Georgia Elementary School where he called on South Paulding High School (SPHS) seniors to speak to the 5th Grade DARE students. SPHS students Allie Moyer, Madison Willits, Jewell Joseph, Jorell Story, Rachel Whitener, Tanner Holcomb, Kane Williams, and Dianna Moyer (SPHS Administrator) spoke to the 5th graders about their choice to remain drug free and what it takes to do it. The seniors also took time to answer questions that the 5th grade students had. This was a good lesson and the elementary students really enjoyed it. Great Job Deputy Moyer!

Funding for this Carnegie library was granted on July 13, 1912 in the form of $40,000. It stands at 205 South Main Street, and is claimed to be the first Carnegie library to serve an entire county. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The building was designed by Howard & Merriam using a Beaux-Arts style.

Paulding is a small northwestern Ohio county seat, located to the east of Fort Wayne.
