Great concert last night at the Philharmonie. For the second half I was allowed near the stage and I truly enjoyed it, not only because I could listen better to the music, but also because I love close ups of the musicians when they are concentrated while awaiting their turn.

Jay Hoggard (b. September 24, 1954, Washington, D.C.) is an American jazz vibraphonist. Jay Hoggard was raised in a religious family. He was born in Washington, D.C. but grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. His mother taught him how to play piano at a young age. At the age of 15, Jay started to play the vibraphone.

Mentoring has been a key component to what keeps CUMAR Marble & Granite growing strong for eight generations so far and they celebrated "Thank Your Mentor Day" in January 2012 by hosting a memorable reception in the showroom of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams of Boston's Back Bay. Among CUMAR's team is Dawn Carroll, who founded the national mentoring initiative, the Over My Shoulder Foundation, with Grammy Award winner Patti Austin.

 

The evening was filled with giving and receiving, and sharing of mentoring stories. Longtime mentors and speakers for the evening were Magic 106.7 Candy O'Terry, Newton attorney Rick Dyer and Patti Austin. Other prominent leaders from the music, legal, and design business communities were also present to celebrate and raise awareness of the impact of mentoring.

Il termine superstar si adatta a ben pochi artisti del mondo dello spettacolo tanto bene quanto alla cantante Patti Austin che iniziò la sua folgorante carriera all’età di quattro anni, debuttando al mitico Apollo Theater. Beneamata protégé di Dinah Washington e Sammy Davis Jr., con glorioso passato a fianco di gente come Quincy Jones e Harry Belafonte, non c’è stato momento in cui non sia stata al top della fama, sia come cantante jazz che, soprattutto, come diva del R&B, scena che ha letteralmente dominato per decenni.

 

Patti Austin nella maturità ha seguito diversi percorsi di ricerca, dallo swing, al blues, al jazz, nominata più volte ai Grammy Awards, nel 2007 si aggiudica la vittoria come “Best jazz Vocal Album” con un album dedicato a George Gershwin.

 

Una voce incredibile, un beat straordinario, una fantastica estensione vocale ed una assoluta padronanza dello scat.
