This is just one of many parts of a decaying tree that had an incredibly textured surface painted with the colors of various lichens. Lichens are a type of fungus. Some are flat like this, others look like mushroom caps growing on the sides of trees and others sport intricately branched structures. This scene was photographed at the Garden of Eden Trail at the Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve in Liberty County, Florida.

Bubbles, created in winter by the photographer, rapidly form ice crystals on the inside surfaces, Michigan, USA,

The beach in Port Douglas was covered with these little balls and holes in various sizes. Apparently they are made by crabs as they sift through looking for food. Reminds me of Dippin' Dots :)

Day 140 of Project 365.

One of the images for my Photography class final project - Patterns in Nature. I looked at different types of patterns, like migration, foot traffic, erosion, and in this case, how the Bison's back is shaped like the hill behind him.

Long exposure of Smith River and willows along the flooded river in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Redwood National Park, California, USA

Any visit to Death Valley National park isn't complete until you go to Mesquite dunes. Even though walking on sand with all the gear is annoying (add to that strong winds blowing sands in your nose, ears), the patterns on the dunes make it really worth it.

In order to find a pristine spot, one has to walk a lot if starting from the parking lot area - since there are too many footsteps around the parking lot area. There is a trail-head (36.616285, -117.071825) ~2.5 miles from parking lot of mesquite sand dunes (towards Beatty Junction), from where such pristine spots can be found without walking too much on sand.

Sockeye Salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) visually transformed by ripples on the surface of the Adams River, during the biggest Sockeye Run in 100 years, Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada, October, Adams_River_Sockeye_Salmon-953

This is a tree trunk. I have no idea what made all the little holes. I don't think I want to know. LOL

Just updated my blog
