The mirror maze was included in an exhibit about patterns in nature. The other parts of the show discussed things like the Golden Ratio (mmmyyyyy favorite ratio) and fractals. It introduced me to the Voronoi (sp?) pattern which is what makes the shapes for kernels of corn and for cloves of garlic. Freaky, man!

Our yard holds a wide range of subject matter for "Patterns in Nature". I had a hard time deciding which photograph to submit to the group, but in the end I opted for this blossom on one of the Japanese Anemone plants I added to the front flower bed in 2012. It didn't bloom last year. This year, I thought it was another variety of coral bells, but then the buds didn't look quite right. It's only because I saw a tweet from Canadian Gardening that I remembered I'd planted three Japanese Anemone plants last fall!

Anyhow, one of the three plants is blooming this year. The blossoms actually remind me a little bit of Alberta Wild Rose blossoms. But there's one big difference - the sort of scaly looking lime green centers (this part is yellow on a wild rose blossom).
