Sunrise on the beach in Daytona Beach, Florida. This is not the typical picture you would associate with Daytona Beach, but on that February morning, we had the beach to ourselves around sunrise.

Enjoy your day and thank you for your visit!

I bought this as I got flowers for a friend and it looked wonderful for almost 2 weeks! I was amazed!

Happy Friday everyone!

A vicious hailstorm lashed northern Sydney just before Christmas, as a culmination of two days of extreme heat. I thought the storm, and especially the icy hail, would dismantle most of the roses in flower. And many did succumb.

But not this one - this is 'The Ice Princess'. Just look at those petals!! A Clint Eastwood performance against the rain and hail. It continues to flower undeterred.

btw - Have you noticed that all Clint Eastwood's old movies featuring him as 'Inspector Harry Callahan' of the San Francisco PD, have all turned up on Netflix. Excellent!!!

Anyway, back to the rose. This is the delicately pink coloured 'Whiter Shade of Pale' hybrid tea-rose. Photographed on 23rd December, 2020.

Happy Sunday!

Many thanks for your visit, it is most appreciated.

Beautiful pale pink Carnation.

"That last week the syringa came out at San Salvatore, and all the acacias flowered. No one had noticed how many acacias there were till one day the garden was full of a new scent, and there were the delicate trees, the lovely successors to the wistaria, hung all over among their trembling leaves with blossom. When, on the first of May, everybody went away, even after they had got to the bottom of the hill and passed through the iron gates out into the village they still could smell the acacias. They could smell them even when they reached London. But that’s another story. " ― Elizabeth von Arnim, "The Enchanted April" 1922

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 17th of April is "flowers in pastel colours", and since it is autumn here in the Southern Hemisphere, I resorted to my archive where I have a multitude of spring blossom images from last spring to choose from which feature pastel shaded blooms. Ornamental apple blossom is one of my favourite examples of spring blossom, and it seemed the perfect choice for this week’s theme with its pale pastel pink tones. I hope you like it too, and that it makes you smile!

Malus is a genus of about thirty to fifty five species of small deciduous trees or shrubs in the family Rosaceae, including the domesticated orchard apple, crab apples and wild apples. The genus is native to the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. Crabapples or ornamental apple blossom trees are known for their beautiful display of pink and white blossoms in spring, and colourful ornamental fruit later in the year.

This pretty flower was spotted on a neighbourhood walk last year. Between it and the neighbouring peonies, the area smelled absolutely heavenly.

Plants within genus Magnolia produce some of the most stunning floral displays on the planet. Elegant, graceful, so very beautiful.

I came across this breathtaking small tree on a neighbourhood walk last spring and stood enjoying its beauty for a long while. It truly was enchanting.

Named for the French botanist Pierre Magnol (1638-1715). Fossils from the Cretaceous period (145-66 million years ago) have been discovered - so these plants are considered some of the first flowering plants on Earth.

Day 185/365:

Pain stops play I'm afraid. An iPhone shot of one of the peonies in a vase on my lounge table. I'm in too much pain with my back to pick up my camera and try to manoeuvre myself into position to photograph anything. Thank goodness for my iPhone and the quality of the camera or I would have definitely been out of the game today.

Crocs have never looked so good.., I have style...

So this is 'Olivia', my pastel pink David Austin rose.

And here is the most beautiful 85-page electronic handbook of David Austin roses with information and exquisite pictures about ALL the roses. It is seriously amazing. Please look through it.

www.davidaustinrosesaustralia.com/pages/australian-handbo...

Olivia's buds open to beautiful, cupped rosettes of an even, mid pink colouring. They have a light to medium fruity fragrance. Olivia flowers exceptionally in Spring and then flowers in flushes until well into autumn. It has dark green foliage, which shows off the flowers to the very best effect.

Olivia was named after the daughter of David Austin Junior and granddaughter of David Austin Senior.

Olivia is growing in my garden here in the Hills District of Sydney.

Its time to see lovely pink colors everywhere in the field!

"In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans." - Kahlil Gibran (Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist).

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 2nd of January is &quotjust one drop". I had a beautiful floral arrangement for my Christmas table this year of pink roses to match the pink porcelain handled knives I was given by a dear friend that graced each place setting, and it is part of that floral arrangement that I used for this week's theme. A single drop sits upon one of the roses, waiting to be discovered. I hope you like my choice for this week's theme, and that it makes you smile!

I have grown about 80 Gerberas, all different colours, some are in my garden beds, some are in pots indoors, here is my pastel pink one.

"My needle skips lightly where daydreamers go,

Stitching ruby giggles in a merry, twirling flow.

Orange hums softly like a cat in the sun,

Yellow pirouettes, just dancing for fun.

Green, blue, violet tumble in a glittery glow,

Till a rainbow of magic unfurls as I sew."

A poetic offering written by your humble photographer (2026).

When it was my birthday three years ago, a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions. She also gave me three follow up tins of similar delightful gifts for Christmas that year, and has added to my collection over subsequent years.

The colours included gere are Black, Light Lilac, Rust Red, Gay Kingfisher, Light Fawn, Bright Violet, Frivolous Pink, Spring Green, Violet, Marina Green, Monaco Blue, Lemon, Rose, Tangerine, Royal Blue, Japonica, Moss Green, Old Gold, Mid Seal Brown, Turkey Red Shade, White, Silver Pine, Dark Bottle Green, Light Cornflower, Light Old Gold, Dark Reseda, Peach Rose, Khaki, Dark Sapphire, and Light Apple Green

Those wonderful gifts are what has inspired me to create the "Embroider my World" series of images featuring examples from my vintage bobbin collection. When the theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 20th of March of "colourful copies" was announced, I immediately thought of all the Sylko cotton spools I have photographed, all in beautiful colours. In this case all the Dewhurst's Sylko reels of cotton date from between 1938 and 1954.

Belle Vue Mill, commonly known as Dewhurst’s, was built by Thomas Dewhurst in 1828. It opened in 1829 as John Dewhurst & Sons and was one of Skipton’s largest spinning and weaving mills. The mill’s position next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal meant that raw cotton could be shipped in by boats from Liverpool. Finished goods would then be sent back the same way ready for distribution. Coal to power the machine’s steam engines was also delivered by barge. In 1897 Dewhurst’s was bought by the English Sewing Cotton Co. It continued to produce Sylko, one of the mill’s most famous products. It was produced in over 500 colours and sold throughout the world. Sylko cottons are still available at haberdashers today.

Day 67/365:

Another busy day with little time for photography. My grandson's preschool is closed this week due to Covid so we are helping out a lot with day care. So this isn't the shot I had planned but a few pink things put together before the light went. Everyone loves a little pink don't they?

I see every day as a gift. Each day brings quiet hope that rises with the sun. An opportunity to learn and to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.

Yes, another photo of my cafe au lait but she is such a beauty that I just can't (and won't) resist.

A quick flat lay when I remembered I needed to take a photo just before I go out for the evening. I still had the Sol 45 on my camera so disengaged the aperture blades to avoid the texture they give.

Sorry to post and run again, I seem to spend my life saying I will catch up later.
