Zorro & Esperanza are Osprey mates that has laid claim on a nesting platform on a private residence along the banks of the Magothy River for some years now. Last year, they had 3 nestlings & it was fun watching them fledge & hanging out along the Magothy River & doing flyovers during the summer of 2016. The entire family left in the fall for their winter migration.
This year, Zorro, as usual arrived first on 3/16/17. Esperanza arrived on 3/21/17. Esperanza started laying eggs about 20 days ago.
This is the entire frame that was captured by the camera. There is absolutely NO crop. When she stretched her wings, I didn't have time to zoom out.

Zorro & Esperanza are an Osprey couple that arrived in my friend's property along the Magothy River last spring (2015). Unfortunately, the nest that they built was destroyed before any eggs were lain. My friend finally had a nesting platform constructed along the banks of the river. By summer time, Zorro though late in the season, still started building the nest. In the late summer of last year, Esperanza left ahead of Zorro.
As typical habit of Ospreys, each one went their own way during the fall & winter, never seeing each other during the period. The couple meet early spring in the nest. Incidentally, Ospreys mate for life.
Earlier in the week, Zorro arrived & started the nest rebuilding to near completion. He was really very busy. Yesterday (3/17/16) Esperanza arrived. A happy day indeed, first for the reunited couple, for my friend, myself & a few others who have known of this couple & the sad events of the previous year.
I also admire the resiliency of this couple, from unfortunate events still with the tenacity & persistence to move forward & start a new family.
I was very fortunate to be able to shoot this couple today (3/18/16), the day right after Esperanza arrived.
