The Parthenon in Athens is the most famous surviving building of Ancient Greece and one of the most famous buildings in the world.
The Parthenon has stood atop the Acropolis of Athens for nearly 2,500 years and was built to give thanks to Athena, the city's patron goddess, for the salvation of Athens and Greece in the Persian Wars. The building was officially called the Temple of Athena the Virgin.

Blue hour at the artificially lit Acropolis in Athens just before sunrise.
The scaffolding has been there for over 4 decades (since 1975), although it seems a little less intrusive these days, since the Eastern facade is finally free of scaffolding. It is estimated to take another 20 years for the restoration.

Six stately young women stand like sentinels on a marble parapet atop the Athenian Acropolis. They are gazing at the Parthenon, the great temple of Athena that, even in its present ruin, is one of the marvels of the world. Casual and relaxed, the women are balancing a heavy stone roof on their heads. It is a remarkable display of female power: voluptuous curves combined with massive, muscular strength.
Since the Roman era, columns shaped like women have been called caryatids. The word comes from the Spartan city of Caryae, where young women did a ring dance around an open-air statue of the goddess Artemis, locally identified with a walnut tree. Antiquity’s most famous caryatids were these six of the Acropolis.

This is a scan of a slide, probably Agfachrome 25..... that film produced such bright and vivid colors, yet not glaringly so. Unfortunately, I subsequently stored my slide collection in the attic for several decades, and the temperature extremes deteriorated the quality. But, it has new life as a B&W.

The columns on all Greek temples seem to slope in a bit, and it is not an illusion, if you follow a line from all of the columns they meet in the upper atmosphere almost exactly where the stratosphere begins.

The Parthenon in Nashville is the world’s only exact-size and detail replica of the original temple in Athens, Greece. A temporary plaster, wood and brick structure was erected as the centerpiece of the 100th anniversary celebration of Tennessee statehood at an exposition opening on May 1, 1897.
In 1915, the city moved toward making the Parthenon replica a permanent structure with the exterior opening in 1925 and the interior completed in 1931.
