Long exposure taken at Lough Leane Co Kerry. A version of this shot was first taken by Norman McCloskey (who was present at this shoot) and appears in his book Parklight.

I've spent the majority of the past two days at home working on house projects. And the weather hasn't been great. But I needed to get out of the house. And coincidentally I finally got around to fixing the flat on the Raleigh Superbe! #raleighsuperbe #raleighbicycles #woodlawnpark

I returned to the park today, most of the leaves washed away from the last few days rain. Caught this as day turned to night......the fine glow from a park light on the pathway.

This was 3:30 in the afternoon,

those lights should not have been lit.

The park light was aglow with the late evening sunlit sky.

Today is the last day of my photo club's "silhouette" challenge. I must say that now I can spell this word correctly!

i went to an parkevent called 'Parklichter' (park lights) with a friend. :-)

… she said, quoting the science fiction book Contact as she looked up at the sky from our lighted bench in the park.

"We have no evidence of that. That's just fanciful thinking," I replied, trying to be the realist. "Besides, even if there were alien beings up there, the universe is just too vast for any sentient being from another star system to reach us. If you are a pure beam of energy you still cannot go faster than the speed of light, let alone approach anything near that speed if one is made of matter. We would be too far away from each other. In order to overcome the distances, alien technology would have to be almost infinite so as to be able to bend an infinite universe on itself, warp it, so that one point of the universe becomes way closer to another in order to visit here in a lifetime."

"You think you're so smart. You are not an astronomer. You are no Carl Sagan or Neil deGrasse Tyson. You know nothing to be so certain," she replied. "If one traveled at half the speed of light, it would only take 9 years to get to our nearest star, Alpha Centauri," she said. "Maybe our closest star neighbour has intelligent life capable of space travel."

"Half the speed of light is MIGHTY fast," I said.

"What if there were some aliens who had lifespans of a million years?" And then it hit her. "Did you think of this, Mr. Smarty Pants? What if aliens launched interstellar drones with artificial intelligence some hundreds of thousands of years ago to explore the universe? They could get here."

"Touché," I quipped. I saw that episode of Star Trek too. Hmm, come to think of it, 2001 Space Odyssey introduced artificial intelligence by man and extraterrestrials too, at least I think that's what the monolith was.

"I wonder how long machines can reasonably function in space?" I thought out loud.

"They would have the technology and access to materials to manufacture and insert whatever is wearing out," she replied.

"Oh, really?" I said. "They eat and metabolize space dust and matter, eh?" I had seen that Star Trek episode too.

Nice bit of afternoon light today in Sefton Park.

These are some park lights and I was trying for the set on side. While composing, felt like including the front one also. Moved shadows up to get darker feeling.

Zen Installation in restaurant "De Kas"

Paul Baartmans

"Het dominante medium in mijn werk is licht. Ik speel graag met dynamische factoren zoals beweging, toeval en interactiviteit, en nodig de toeschouwer uit te delen in dit spel.

Motieven als transparantie, schaduw, ritme, geluid, spiegelingen, golfbewegingen, combinaties van lichtkunst met architectuur of (stads-)landschap; alles draagt bij tot een gevarieerd resultaat, waarbij verrassing en verwondering, en soms ook verstilling voorop staan.”

For four winter nights Parklight, an exhibition of 16 light installations and sculptures, takes place in Park Frankendael, located in the east of Amsterdam. The artworks are dispersed over the park grounds; walk from one artwork to the next in this historical park that includes a monumental country house, a baroque garden and a real folly. The artworks are made in a variety of styles; most of them are based on old school techniques like neon, tube lighting, overhead and slide projections, and the good ol' light bulb. The exhibition's main theme is the tension between culture and nature.

Warm up and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat at Restaurant Merkelbach or the clubhouse of Scouting Frankendael. Maps are available for free at the starting point of the route near the main entrance of the park, next to Huize Frankendael on the Middenweg. Tram 9 stops nearby.

Man Made Moon, Moon Made Man (Huize Frankendael)

Nicky Zwaan
