My last day at work before the Xmas break was sunny so I went to the park at lunchtime. As always there were plenty of squirrels searching for food.
Wrest Park The present house was built in 1834–39, to designs by its owner Thomas de Grey, 2nd Earl de Grey, an amateur architect and the first president of the Royal Institute of British Architects, who was inspired by buildings he had seen on trips to Paris. Personally my favourite image taken during the Beast From The East storm last week. I already had this shot in mind as I'd taken a similar picture way back in February 2009, which was the last time we'd had any significant snowfall in the city. As I have said on previous posts, we don't actually receive much lasting snowfall in Carlisle itself, so when it does you have to be ready to make the most of it. Unfortunately, when I took the initial image back in 2009 I'd just started seriously getting into photography, so my skills weren't perfect and the image wasn't technically great. However, I did like the image and thought hopefully I'd be able to recreate it sometime in the future if it ever snowed heavily here again, which luckily it did last week. I loved how the tree-lined avenue just disappears into the snowstorm, creating lots of depth and atmosphere. Thankfully, although it was snowing extremely heavily and the wind was very strong, it was blowing sideways and not directly at me. Therefore, I was able to snap a few shots without much snow blowing on the lens.

We had a walk around Petworth Park yesterday to make the most of the snowy conditions. It was bitterly cold and very windy.

Fallen and yet so beautiful. The trees are turning in a spectacular performance all around town. Welcome to fall in KC.

One of the regular reports these days is that of ring-necked parakeets all around the park and surrounding areas, particularly in Stenner Woods. These birds have established themselves very rapidly in recent years and are to be found in most south Manchester parks and nearby areas. They are very loud and noticeable. Some people love them, for others they are a nuisance to be ranked with Magpies in the dislikeability stakes. Whichever way you feel it is confidently predicted that in a few years time they will be the most numerous of all species in our parks.
