The paper machine has been in the mill since 1877. It was initially steam-powered but since 1979 it is run by an electric engine. This is necessary to achieve the constant speed the machine requires, something the inconsistent wind power is incapable of.
The great quantity of water (more than 90%) distributes the pulp from the gutter evenly over the slowly revolving mesh conveyor belt and then the water drains off while the paper winds around the pole at the end of the conveyor belt. Once the paper reaches the desired thickness it is cut off and removed.
De Schoolmeester is a smock mill in Westzaan, North Holland, the Netherlands which is maintained in full working order. It is the only wind powered paper mill in the world.
De Schoolmeester was built in 1692. The name De Schoolmeester (English: The Schoolmaster) probably denotes the occupation of one of the founders.

looking from where the solvopulpers would have been top right you can still see the twin gable markings of number 3 and 4 fourdrinier papermachine sheds.

In previous years you would have viewed the Hennebeke/china clay building ,Solvopulpers 3 and 4 papermachine virgin fibre hydrapulper building etc from here.

The dandy sat on top of the wire it compacted the wet fibre and was also used to watermark the paper.
I need some help with these but think that this room was up behind No 1 paper machine. If I am correct there was a baler that was later removed for safety as you could jump into it.
There was a hoist to go up to the salle and a chute that paper was thrown down from the salle to the baler.

these pits were used to purify water as a lagoon but were originally the pits under the paper machines if there was a paper break on the machine the paper travelling at speed went down the pit to be rolled up later for re pulping

I did see number 1 paper machine working in the 1970's but did not see number 2 machine number 1 had a group of about 7 steps at the dry end this machine does not?
