This paperfactory, hidden among the pine trees, has had a rich history. It was built in the beginning of the 20th century, in quite hostile terrain, and had more than 300 employees working on the site. During it's existence it has had many ups and downs, but it managed to remain active during the century. At one point the company was on the brink of bankruptcy, and luckily there was a possibility of acquisition. This water-wheel was used at the end
of the 19th century to drive a paper
factory. It was in use until around 1960.
Now it is placed on the stream Würm at Gauting ca 20 meters from its original workingplace as a memorial.

In 1983 drastic measures were taken, such as a change in the board of directors and managers of the factory. Although things apparently went better, a loss of 309 million Belgian francs was recorded at a general meeting on September 24, 1985 . After a long battle with banks and lenders, bankruptcy was nevertheless filed.
On May 20, 1986 an agreement was concluded and a new company was founded: "DENAEYER PAPIER NV" and would be part of the Dutch group Van Gelder Papier .

You can't see it in this picture, but judging by the engine sized hole in the ceiling directly above the old engine, it used to be upstairs.

Construction activity has been noticeable since the beginning of 2017 on the historic site of De Naeyer. Much of the old factory was demolished, the ground was cleaned up and a new allotment is gradually taking shape. Attention is paid to the protected water tower around which a central square will be provided. The old office building will be renovated and both will play an important role in the whole.
This was a large pitch black sub-basement, except for this one area a beam of light had come through from above.
