Lesser Panda (Ailurus Fulgens, or Shining-cat, or Red Panda) in the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center (Sichuan, China)
Thought I'd share these beautiful screenshots of our Bao Bao (courtesy of pdxwildlife taken by Hayley ....)
Mirror , mirror .....
I haven't been to the Calgary zoo for several years but I thought I would go to see the pandas. They are on loan to Canada from China for 10 years. They have already been at the Toronto Zoo for 5 years and just arrived in Calgary in May. They will be here for 5 years and will be a big draw for the zoo. 2 cubs were born in Toronto 3 years ago and were the first to be born in Canada. They will be sent back to China sometime next year. The zoo is hopeful that they will be able to breed the 2 adults again after the cubs go back.
Their only food is bamboo and they eat 20-40 pounds per day. The bamboo is sent from China and the flights to bring it here are donated.
It was difficult to take good pictures because they were behind glass.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
I find that Pandas usually close their eyes while chewing. Not sure why, but I like to think they're just that focused on eating.

This adolescent panda was hard to photograph and so full of energy. I wish I would have gotten the whole top of his head to include his cute ears.
