My first attempt at focus stacking.

This morning I went out to take some macros of the dew in the back yard. After I had taken a bunch that I was certain were going to be good, I noticed that I had taken them all in jpg. I was bummed. Well, I didn't have time to reshoot all of them, but I did get some others in raw.

This particular image is from 5 jpg images. I think it could be cleaner, but I'm pretty happy with the result. And considering how painless it is (PS does all the work), I will likely be trying this again.

Thanks for looking.

Jellyfish have no brains.... just elementary nervous systems. And... though they can contract themselves and kind of control their vertical movement... they're totally at the mercy of winds, tides and currents for their horizontal locomotion.

They only live a few months. And yet... what a life.

Imagine. No work. No decisions. No angst. Just a lifetime of floating around, eating little critters and... at some point... going through the reproductive motions.

I think I'd like a life like that. Structureless. Thoughtless. Emotionless. Painless. Free of relationships. Free of complications. And mercifully brief. One day you're jellying around in the water... the next you're a drying smear of mucous on the rocks. And then, with the next change of tide, you're gone... recycled back into the sea.

Sounds pretty good to me...

♫ Fozzy - Painless ♫

My life trapped in between

A whisper and a scream

A suicide machine of my own making

You let it kill my brain

Like needles in my veins

Consumed in your own embrace

There's no escaping

My fix is the misery

Won't stop till the end of me

I can't feel anything

Killing me one breath at a time

Caught in your web I'm paralyzed

So go on and lay me down to rest

You make it painless, painless

I can't, I can't, I can't

I can't feel any pain

I can't, I can't, I can't

I've got this funny feeling that I just can't shake

The devil in the wires, the data eating up my brain

There's a flood that's coming up to my bed

Chaos wins, and I can't get over it

How do I even learn to play the human way?

Smiles without a heart, weird mechanical mistakes

There's a flood that's coming up to my bed

Love's out there, but I'm indifferent

Stand up, can you keep your head?

Love me like tomorrow we're dead

Beauty, violence

War is within us

We'll be silenced

Tomorrow, we're gonna be stardust

No more ego

Nothing to control us

Painless freedom

Tomorrow, we're gonna be stardust

No comment .... BUT ... Have a painless, “toothacheless” weekend!

Good morning dear Flickr friends,

every day we have a new chance to become a better person. Take me, for example. Yesterday Yarin 127367.9 and today the jump to 127368.0, because I managed to get up at 5:15 a.m. to take pictures of this damn sunrise. And lo and behold, it was only zero degrees Celsius, a whole 4 degrees warmer than yesterday. No, but seriously: I am one of those people who are actually convinced that today you can do everything better than yesterday, if you only want to.

Especially in the times of the Corona crisis, there are also many very nice things. For example, people perceive themselves at all and respect the necessary personal safety distance. Except for a couple of idiots who still don't understand.

OK. It reminds me of a wonderful story in my career as a social worker. I once helped a violent and drink-resistant Russian youth and lo and behold, I became a kind of substitute father for him and he no longer built shit, did an apprenticeship as a craftsman and later he attended the master school. He got the driver's license and drove a great car, met his wife and had a son and I think they live a good life. When the care was over, I was invited to dinner and said goodbye to the whole family. Now comes the funny thing. The boy's two brothers were so thankful and happy that I saved the little brother from the shit that I was given a very special farewell gift. If I ever had problems of any kind and completely irrelevant why and at all, the problems would be eliminated for me. Short and painless. No big deal, bang. Dude, I still haven't redeemed this problem-solving voucher, but seriously. It would be a shame for one of these corona pushers in the supermarket, right? It should be something big, something really annoying ...;)

Have a great day, good Russian friends and a happy weekend ahead and do not let it bite you...:))

Today's Macro Mondays entry - topic:- Mesh

📷📷

I can't think of Mesh without 'M*A*S*H' coming to mind ... that great American comedy television series about a mobile medical surgical unit caught up in the middle of the Korean War.

📷📷

Some names to throw at you now... :

Alan Alda (Dr. "Hawkeye" Pierce), Gary Burghoff (Radar O'Reilly), Loretta Swit (Major "Hot Lips" Houlihan), Jamie Farr (cross-dressing Sergeant Maxwell Q. Klinger), Harry Morgan (Colonel Sherman T. Potter), Mike Farrell (Captain B.J. Hunnicut), David Ogden Stiers (Major Charles Winchester), Larry Linville (Major Franklin Burns), to name but a few great characters. The show first aired in 1972 and ran for eleven years.

📷📷

And if that is not enough to rekindle a few old memories, how about a moment for the series theme tune called "Suicide is Painless," just ♪♫♪ Click Here ♪♫♪.

😊

Have I ever mentioned the tiny terror of our rockpools, the blue ringed octopus? Our wild coastline is home to a variety of marine life, including some fascinating but potentially dangerous creatures. Among these is the blue-ringed octopus, a tiny but deadly inhabitant of our rock pools.

Despite its tiny size and vibrant colors (check out google images, they are quite fascinating), the blue-ringed octopus is one of the most venomous creatures in the ocean. Its bite, often painless, can deliver a potent neurotoxin capable of paralysing and killing a human within minutes.

Here are some fun facts about these cuddly little occy's:

Deadly Dose: A single blue-ringed octopus carries enough venom to kill 26 adult humans.

Aggressive Nature: They are known for their aggressive behavior, especially when threatened.

Dual-Purpose Venom: They possess two types of venom: one for hunting prey and another for defense.

Non-Contact Kill: It's believed that they can incapacitate prey by releasing venom into the water, eliminating the need for a direct bite.

Rare Encounters: Fortunately, attacks on humans are relatively rare. When exploring rock pools, if you encounter one, admire it from a safe distance and avoid touching it.

Anyone want to join me for a splash in this rock pool ? ;)

Many thanks for every fave and comment, I appreciate them all!

I do believe we'd all be better off if we followed the example of my buddy, Cooper. A mid-day nap or two is the best medicine. "Naps are a way of traveling painlessly through time into the future."

So, it’s 13-Jun-19 and I am fretting if the equipment that I plan on taking on my planned evening trip to Big Lake Park is actually working. As I am looking for test subjects in the yard I notice that Tera (female Pterodactyl) had returned for a follow-up visit. This was a Thursday and it’s quite obvious she was out partying the night before. Who does that, Wednesday night, middle of the week? Chasing "The Boy"?

But I did not care that much. Even though I am a confirmed LightRoom user, I took this opportunity to process this shot, beginning to end, in Affinity Photo. I was hoping that I could replace LightRoom completely but no such luck. LightRoom has the advantage of a catalog that lets you organize pics relatively painlessly and it has previewing capabilities in the library portion that are sadly absent in Affinity Photo which is a one pic at a time kind of thing. However, you can do things in AP that LR can’t even dream about. So, my workflow will change to using LR at the start, doing the easy things and then finishing up in AP for some of the trickier lighting effects. And, of course, the copyright thing which I used to do in Photoshop Elements.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer.

Have you realised the beauty of the effect of the wind blowing over the water and its consequences?

It causes the water to adopt a slightly wavy texture for a short period of time. The water adopts it but does not really change. It simply modifies its appearance for limited amount of time. And then quickly goes back to its original state. Seamlessly, quickly, uniformly, painlessly.

That is not very different to the way the voice works, the sound of music or even the matter at its innermost level. They are waves traveling through the space and time. Now you hear the music, a moment later is not there anymore...

Be shapeless, formless, like the water or the wind. Flow, change but never forget your original shape. Who you are.

The theme for Smile on Saturday this week is Earrings.

Well, I have never been a fan of earrings, I don't own any as I'm completely phobic about piercing and I don't like the idea of pinching clip-ons either so here is our (painless) improvisation... I hope it fits the theme ok!

Saturday was such a fun day. The three of us were seriously pursuing our hobby, and having fun while we were doing it. That makes for painless education, and a bonding friendship.

#MacroMonday

#pair

Oh dear, this sure turned out differently... namely because one of these glass balls which sparkle so nicely in the sunshine decided to part with the stud while I was arranging it for the photo. Damn. Not that it actually surprised be, because that has happened before. I had them repaired, and I will get them repaired once again, soon, because these studs are summer favourites of mine, given to me by a dear friend ages ago.

Well, as I looked at the misery, I noticed that the surface with which the tiny glass "golf ball" was glued to the stud is shiny like a mirror – could I use that for the photo? I tried to arrange the studs so that the intact earring would be reflected in the mirror surface of the broken one and, for the sake of completeness, placed the broken-off stud behind the single glass ball. What I'd initially planned as a shiny, blingy glamour photo with lots of golden bokeh and a black background had turned into a "down to earth" version – ready for repair on the workbench ;)

Quickly focus-stacked today, and equally quickly processed in DXO PhotoLab 4 and Analog Efex (for a warmer look and the vignette), because I ran out of time again.

Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, stay safe and healthy!

Douglas County, Washington

April 2022

A common animal in the ever shrinking grasslands of the state. This one is a male and he was overseeing his herd while being watchful of the competition. There were atleast two other males who were eyeing the herd.

The place had a pretty large number of these Blackbucks - maybe 200-300 of them. A pattern we saw is that one male would have a large number of females in its protection along with a couple of other younger males too. When another male wants to lead the females, there is a small fight where each of them lock their horns and push each other. That quick battle decides the winner. I was able to capture some of the action and was happy that the battle was a quick painless affair.

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback.

"Oh don't worry~, it'll be practically painless... For me!"

Without means to escape the looming bloodbath, her demon orb came levitating with a flick of her finger. "I guess a fight is inevitable," she said in a somewhat calm voice as the orb started to glow bright red. "I hope you're ready to perish. Don't worry... I'll do it fast and painless... /hopefully/."

A common animal in the ever shrinking grasslands of the state. This one is a female and they were basking in the sun for much of the hot day. Since it was a protected area, there is no predator that could hunt them - except of course people. In other areas, they are targeted for their meat. I believe something similar could be happening in the grassland once they cross the imaginary boundaries which the animals don't understand.

When the night is endless?

Why cling to the light

When the light always diminishes?

Come dance in the dark

Well, we have cycled 108 miles (178km) that day actually. Great route north east of London, surprisingly flat. I could not belief that it went so smoothly and painlessly. It took us 8h 45min and it was part of a training for the 100mile sportive we have signed up for in mid May. Update: sportive went great ! I have finished in 7 hours!

One is Smooth Faced and One Pretty Rough, but the have become friends and want to stay together.

I am in the process of deciding if my Lightlings (who only exist in Raintings) could live on Earth, instead of just 30 minutes in my Eugene-Springfield area of Oregon and then disintegrate, if they could live in 3 additional places on Earth for 30 more minutes each place, a total of 120 minutes on Earth and then disintegrate. It would give them opportunities to visit other places on this Planet by my own ideas or by invitation/suggestion from other Flickr viewers. Each Lightling could go to different places, all 3 of them, or maybe one the same as a friend Lightling, and 2 different from each other. It could be fun to suggest where you live. Their disintegration will be final, and since I am their creator, I decided it will always be painless. What do you think? Would you like to see them have expanded horizons? 4X what they have now? I may make all their decisions myself, as I have been doing; but it would be fun to have some other Flickrites suggest locations, etc. P.S. These two are just friends, but Flickr users could also suggest if they would like to see 2 of Lightlings be romantically involved, or maybe one have a dog Lightling for a pet. You get the idea. Barring any feedback from other Flickr members, I'll just keep having 100% of the ideas, stories, locations, characters, etc.

Thanks, Delina (long *i* sound)

P.S. Because Lightlings do not always look like normal Earthly creatures, they might have a pet that looks like some sort of animal, but not an Earthly one necessarily. And that will probably be just fine.
