drama on the rocks

The Oregon coast is a place of marvels, from moonset at dawn to sunset.

La vie, c'est comme les vagues, c'est comme l'Ʃcume, tout se disloque, tout s'en va, tout se perd.

The city is on the Pacific coast in the upper northwestern part of California, about 20 mi (32 km) south of the Oregon border. Crescent City's offshore geography makes it unusually susceptible to tsunamis.[11] Much of the city was destroyed by four tsunami waves generated by the Great Alaskan earthquake off Anchorage, Alaska in 1964. More recently, the city's harbor suffered extensive damage and destruction from tsunamis generated by the March 11, 2011 earthquake off Sendai, Japan. Several dozen vessels and many of the docks they were moored to were destroyed as wave cycles related to the tsunamis exceeded 8 ft (2.4 m).

The climate of Crescent City is moderate, with cool summers for its latitude as a result of intense maritime moderation. Nearby inland areas behind the mountains have significantly warmer summer temperatures.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC is the parent company of the BNSF Railway (formerly the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway). The company is an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, which is controlled by investor Warren Buffett.

History

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation was incorporated in 1993 to facilitate the merger of Burlington Northern, Incorporated, parent of the Burlington Northern Railroad, and Santa Fe Pacific Corporation, which owned the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (Santa Fe). The corporate merger was consummated on September 22, 1995, at which point shareholders of the previous companies became shareholders of BNSF and the two companies became wholly owned subsidiaries of BNSF. In December 1996, the two holding companies and two railroads were formally merged, and in January 1998 the remaining intermediate holding company was folded into the railroad.

Robert D. Krebs of Santa Fe Pacific was president of BNSF from the merger until 1999, chief executive from the merger until 2000, and chairman from 1997 until 2002. He was succeeded in all three positions by Matthew K. Rose.

On November 3, 2009, Berkshire Hathaway made a $26 billion offer to buy the remaining 77.4% of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation it did not already own, valuing the purchase at $34 billion. The deal, which including Berkshire's previous investment and the assumption of $10 billion in Burlington Northern debt brings the total value to $44 billion. Consummated February 12, 2010, it is the largest acquisition in Berkshire Hathaway's history.

The deal was structured so that the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation would merge with and into R Acquisition Company, LLC, an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. The deal closed on February 12, 2010, and at the same time, the now merged company changed its name to Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC that remains an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

Happy Monochrome Monday

Some days the worst weather makes for the best photographs. . .a good weekend to everyone.

Morning begins along the Oregon coastline. A great place to explore with all the neat rocks and sand as well in areas.

Morning comes to the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Here a river along the Oregon coast heads into the Pacific Ocean.

I counted off a few bucket list items on this trip, this being one of them. What a way to start the year off! The weather wasnt "ideal" It was overcast and dreary, it lacked in contrast, the light was flat and it was raining cats and dogs. Amazing! I had on a waterproof jacket and my duck boots were perfect. I stood on that beach till I HAD to put my cameras away and head back to the car because the tide started coming in and the wind pretty much knocked me over. It was blowing so hard the trees were bent at the top. I couldn't have set up a tripod even if I tried. I'll share a photo from the beach sometime else. If you follow me on the other platform then you saw that already!ā™”

My favorite composition of the beach was as I first saw it, arriving at the beach. I'll never ever forget seeing it for the first time. I swear time stopped, I couldnt breathe and my heart was beating so fast. I dont think I've ever had a scene do that to me before. I am so glad my husband was driving or I would have likely run off the road.

My husband was a very good sport and spoiled the mess out of my eyeballs and we burned several great memories into our brains on this beach ā™”
