Þingvellir is a historically and geologically significant site in southwestern Iceland, located about 40 kilometers northeast of Reykjavík. The peninsula contains some of Iceland’s oldest volcanic formations alongside more recent lava fields, such as those around Búðir and Arnarstapi.
