While fishing on Lake of the Ozark a Chinook Helicopter appeared from around the point flying low and slow. the prop wash made it almost appear he was trying to wash the Chinook. But in reality he was part of a training exercise being conducted by our great men and woman of the U.S. Army.

Two deteriorating buildings out in the middle of nowhere brings up a lot of questions. The one building still holds some hay along with a tractor that is ancient and the other small structure is propped up for reasons only known to the propper. When I went around the the front I found the inside to be the interior an small, old house with fiber walls. There was no sign of insulation and I gave a nod of appreciation to the folks who pioneered our state and lived through our rugged winters. It could not have been easy.
Once your 'props' inspire you, if you're anything like me, you can't stop taking pics!! Got loads with various white pieces - the hard part is making up your mind ain't it?
The little figurine is just over 5" tall and the cup & saucer, just under 3".
Although the pic was already white - I gave it a helping hand with a white vignette effect, which made it even whiter!

Mit seinen 65 Kilometern Länge schafft der Saar-Kohlen-Kanal/Canal des Houillères de la Sarre seit den 1860er Jahren eine Verbindung zwischen dem saarländischen Montanrevier und dem Rhein-Marne-Kanal bei Gondrexange. Die auf ein Dekret von Kaiser Napoleon I. zurückgehende Wasserstraße stellte im 19. und beginnenden 20. Jahrhundert einen wichtigen Transportweg für - der Name lässt es bereits erahnen - saarländische Kohle in Richtung der französischen Industriezentren dar und erleichterte in Gegenrichtung zugleich die Versorgung der Hüttenwerke an der Saar mit Eisenerz. Im Zusammenhang mit dem Kanalbau wurde nämlich auch die Saar von Saargemünd/Sarreguemines bis Luisenthal und Ensdorf kanalisiert, ein Jahrhundert bevor die Großschifffahrt von deutscher Seite aus das Saarland erreichte!
Längst hat der Kohlenkanal seine Bedeutung für den Gütertransport eingebüßt, eine Entwicklung, die wie auf vielen anderen französischen Kanälen schon gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts begann. Denn zu dieser Zeit wurden die meisten Bahnlinien eröffnet, die den Lauf der heute nur noch freizeitmäßig genutzten Wasserstraße begleiten. Bei Wittring überquert die Strecke Sarreguemines - Straßburg den Kanal gleich mehrfach, unter anderem mittels einer fotogenen Stahlfachwerkbrücke.
Bis in den Herbst 2022 hinein polterten mehrmals pro Woche auch Güterzüge von und nach Sarralbe über das Bauwerk. Am 24. März 2021 war es die DE18 309 der CFL Cargo mit einer Leine leerer Propen/Propylen-Kesselwagen, welche die Lok früher am Morgen aus dem Gleisanschluss des Solvay/Ineos-Chemiewerks abgeholt hat: www.flickr.com/photos/132444999@N07/51721011517/in/album-... Zunächst wird sie die unter der Zugnummer 63752 (Sarralbe - Hausbergen) laufende Fuhre nach Sarreguemines bringen, wo der Zug umfahren werden kann, um gut eine Stunde später in Gegenrichtung nochmal vorbei zu kommen und schließlich über die "Ligne 9" quer durch die Nordvogesen Kurs auf den Straßburger Rangierbahnhof zu nehmen. Seit Inbetriebnahme einer neuen Pipeline von Carling nach Sarralbe ist dieser Zug - wie der gesamte Bahnbetrieb im einstigen Nebenbahnknoten - Geschichte. Verkehrswege überholen sich, wie uns schon der Saar-Kohlen-Kanal gelehrt hat...
