AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Officials are trying to piece together exactly what happened with Continental Flight 3407 before it crashed into a home in Clarence Thursday.
44 people and 4 crew members were on the plane. One person on the ground also died. The flight was a 74-seat Q400 Bombardier aircraft and operated by Colgan Air. Colgan officials are expressing sorrow to the family members of the victims in the accident.
The President and CEO of the Pinnacle Airlines Corp and CEO of Colgan Air, Philip Trenary says they are doing everything they can to find out what caused the crash. Officials say they Q400 Bombardier was a brand new plane. The pilot flying the plane was a male and had a female co-pilot. They have confirmed the flight did leave Newark and was delayed.
The flight was originally scheduled to arrive at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport around 8:30pm Thursday, they have not said why it was delayed. This is the first accident with the company."

Purple Dash with a white radome...
Although I didn't realise it at the time, this was to be my last photo of a FlyBe aircraft in service, before they sadly ceased operations on 5th March, 2020. Having been in a similar position twice during my 43 year airline career (British Eagle in 1968 & Novair in 1990), my thoughts and sympathy go out to all the FlyBe Airlines staff who are now out of a job (not forgetting the Handling Agency staff, who did FlyBe's ground handling, whose jobs may now in peril due to the closure).
First flown with the Bombardier test registration C-FPEF, this aircraft was delivered to Colgan Air, leased to Pinnacle Airlines and operated on behalf of Continental Connection as N204WQ in May-08. When Continental Airlines merged into United Airlines in Oct-10, Continental Connection became United Express. It was returned to Colgan Air in Jul-12, sold to Regional Equipment Trust and stored at Macon, GA, USA the same month. In Jun-15 the aircraft was sold to Nordic Aviation Capital A/S and moved to Rockford, IL,USA for further storage. It was to have become G-PRPG with FlyBe but that wasn't taken up and it was transferred to Nordic Capital's subsidiary company NAC Aviation 23 Ltd as G-CJFN in Jun-16. It was leased to FlyBe as G-PRPI in Sep-16. Sadly, FlyBe ceased operations on 05-Mar-20, updated (Mar-20).
