A moody morning view of the Portland Head Light. Which I'll admit Maine's phrasing for their lighthouses takes some getting used to.
Thanks for looking!

Portland Head Light
Cape Elizabeth, Maine
This is a blue hour capture on the last morning of 2024.
Construction of this lighthouse began in 1787 at the directive of George Washington and was completed on January 10, 1791.
In the beginning whale oil lamps were used for illumination. But over the years they have been replaced by a series of fresnel lenses. The keepers house wasn't added until 1891.
It is the oldest lighthouse in Maine

Cira Centre, designed by Cesar Pelli. Silver glass curtain wall is a mirror by day, an LED-lit grid by night. The shape-shifting structure is built over a rail yard - inspiration for New York's Hudson Yard development?

A lot warmer here than in MN, that's for sure. PHL YPSW05 picks up their last LPG car and gets ready to head back to the yard.
Been a long time since I've been out and about at the crack of dawn.

Like a 20 shot pano on an A7riv. I think I almost burned my computer to the ground processing this one...
The PHL is best known for shuttling double-stack containers around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. However, the railroad also has a share of the LA area's carload freight traffic. Here, PHL YPSW24 hauls some boxcars bound for the Reyes Industrial Lead in Compton.

This is one of those shots that I am unsure about. I think it's because it is so different from what I normally shoot that I have no objectivity. I shoot almost exclusively with a 10-20mm so when I look at this (taken at 200mm) I feel like it looks like a snapshot taken with a point and shoot. I like the perspective though and this is an angle of the headlight I have never captured so I posted anyway. I may head back there tomorrow morning to try and get some shots with an epic sunrise.
This morning I met Jason Gendron at PHL for an early photoshoot. It was Sofa King cold!!! LIke, 10 °F! I didn't even set up the tripod or fiddle with the setting or change lenses. So, I got mostly crap, but it was fun to hang out with Jason.
I went out this morning, hoping for a great sunrise at Portland Head Light. What I got was a little less than that, but the waves were massive! It's always nice to see the sun rise over the ocean, even when you don't actually see the sun! Hope you are all well and safe out there!

I didn't really like this photo in color or black and white so I layered the two together for a kind of duplex look. Not so sure about this one either but thought I would post one more of PHL and then move on. I want to get a bit closer to the lighthouse to try this again, but it was dead high tide here and the access to the rock beach by the lighthouse is cutoff at high tide (just a tip if you are down here shooting, know the tides! You can get stuck in half a dozen places if you are not careful).
Haven't really been on many streams lately, will try to catch up asap!
