Recently, the Australian activist group Collective Shout pressured payment companies like Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal to blacklist all gaming platforms that host NSFW or LGBTQ+ content. In response, platforms such as Steam and Itch.io have delisted hundreds or even thousands of games—even legal titles created by independent developers
Meanwhile,GOG.com stands firm, resisting pressure and defending creative freedom .
Why this matters:
• This is not about content taste—whether you consume NSFW or LGBTQ+ art or not is irrelevant.
• What matters is freedom of expression. Corporations should not decide what legal content we can buy or enjoy.
• Today it’s games. Tomorrow, it could be books, art, music, or other creative works. Groups like this never achieve something and say "its enough, we will stop there"
As residents of a virtual platform like Second Life, we have extra reason to care.
