Dear friends an asset close to our heart went down this evening during the scrimmage of Don Edwards in Alviso, CA while seeing his first action of the night. He went down from ~ 20" tipping over with the tripod into the partially dried out salt bed/nasty slush (and possibly a rock?). He suffered internal damage dislocating his CF PCBA (mechanically shifted) and further injuring his CF door (old war wound, ~4ft to tile) he still wanted to continue (electronics fully functional) he had had amnesia(can no longer read CF card) and was forced to remove him from duty.
Niko as I now name him....... was a member of the FX platoon designed by the Imaging Segment of Nikon Corporation will soon meet his makers once again. Unfortunately not just for a routine cleaning but to be decommissioned for a short while for mechanical repairs prior to being returned for duty. He will be missed dearly as he has been subject to much more than most of his brethren have, from -40F to 110F up to 3-4" of downpour for 2-3 hours and physical abuse to just name a few examples.
