El casco antiguo medieval de Pals, conocido también como el Pedró, ha sido restaurado tan cuidadosamente que un paseo por sus calles nos retrotrae siglos atrás. Se trata, junto con Peratallada, del centro histórico más sobresaliente del Ampurdán. Entre sus murallas destaca la iglesia de Sant Pedro, original del año 994, a la que se llega por la calle Mayor. Allí cerca se encuentra el mirador de Josep Pla, con excelentes vistas al interior del Ampurdán, junto a la antigua Torre de les Hores y sus tumbas visigóticas. Y es que la villa se encuentra sobre un montículo desde el cual se domina buena parte de la región. Un paseo por el centro nos releva restaurantes que ofrecen platos típicos ampurdaneses, tiendas con antigüedades y cerámica (muy típica de la zona), así como el Museo Ca La Pruna, de historia local, que incluye restos arqueológicos hallados en la zona.

Thomas Wilson Moore
Bantamweight boxer
B 28 July 1894 in Union City TN
In 1919 he sought a passport to travel to Great Britain to fight the Welsh Wonder, Jimmy Wilde. Moore and Wilde had faced each other before in an inter-allied tournament while Moore was in the US Navy after WWI.
“Memphis Pal Moore was an American boxer from Memphis, who claimed the World Bantamweight Championship in 1918 defeating championship claimant Johnny Ertle in Baltimore. He was rated as the seventeenth best bantamweight of all time by boxing.com, and was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2010.
Managed by Tommy Walsh, Moore fought over 200 fights. He fought over thirty bouts with fifteen world champions, of which he impressively won nineteen.”
Moore fought Jimmy Wilde on July 17, 1919 in London, while still in the Navy. The bout was part of the Finals for the ISBA King's Trophy Bantamweight Competition. Moore won by decision and took the King's Bantamweight Trophy by some American accounts, but officially lost the decision according to the British referee and judges present at the bout. Wilde was the Welsh-born World Flyweight Champion impressively for seven years from 1916-1923, and held the title at the time of his bout with Moore. “

Castello di Palo
Il castello di Palo è una fortificazione di epoca medievale situata a Palo, comune di Ladispoli (RM), oggi di proprietà della famiglia Odescalchi.
Le prime notizie di un insediamento fortificato si hanno nel 1132 quando truppe genovesi occuparono una cittadina vicina. Ma è nel 1330 che viene per la prima volta citato un Castum Pali, di proprietà del Monastero di San Saba e poi affidato agli Orsini. Durante il suo primo periodo il castello ebbe molti proprietari tra cui: Francesco Orsini, Papa Alessandro VI (Borgia), Felice Della Rovere Orsini, i Papi Paolo III e Sisto V, i Cardinali Flavio Orsini e Virginio Orsini. Nel 1693 Flavio e Lelio Orsini vendettero la proprietà a Livio Odescalchi i cui discendenti tuttavia vendettero il castello: dapprima fu comprato dal Duca Grillo di Genova e poi dal Marchese Carlo Loffredo di Trevico. Successivamente nel 1780 il castello fu ricomprato dalla famiglia Odescalchi gli attuali proprietari.

Members of the Police Activity League Park Corps celebrated their last day with a pizza party hosted by Mayor O'Leary at Waterbury City Hall. The PAL Park Corps is made up of participants in PAL's Summer Youth Employment Program and was realized through a partnership with the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board. The group spent the summer assisting the Waterbury Parks Dept. with the maintenance and clean up of several parks. This initiative is part of Mayor O'Leary's broader campaign to improve the condition of city parks.
