First time I have seen this species, very attractive with her longitudinal abdominal stripes. One of the very few errors in the WildGuide 'Britain's Spiders' is that the photos of this species and Pellenes tripunctatus are labelled the wrong way (p413).

With several Olympians remaining active here I personally think the most distinctive are the former Lothian Alexander Royale bodied examples. One of these, still looking well for its 25 years, is pictured leaving Stewartby on the pm school run.

Walthamstow based Capital Citybus initially bought eight of these unusual and rare Dennis Arrows and had in what turned out to be a long running contract to supply a bus service for the East London Line extension. As well as several other members of their fleet, five out of nine of these unusual and rare Dennis Arrows were painted in an orange and white dedicated route branded livery, however 415 seen here was acquired in an extra four, 413-6, P413-6MTW, from dealer stock in 01/1997. It is seen here on Brook Avenue, outside Wembley Park station, on 05/08/2001, loading for a non-stop run to Baker Street, when operating on a London Underground Metropolitan Line Rail Replacement Service. It worked out of Hackney when new, however five months later it was transferred to Dagenham. In 02/1998, it was back to Hackney but it can't have been popular there as just a montha later, it was back to Dagenham! It's blind boxes were then converted to standard from 3-track blinds which these tag-on four were fitted with. In 07/1998, Capital were acquired by First Group and a month later it was back to Hackney, via a brief stint at Northumberland Park. In 03/2001, it was back to Northumberland Park then in 02/2002 it was back to Hackney yet again! In 11/2002 it moved to Nortumberland Park just for good measure and was withdrawn from there in 02/2004, moving to First West Yorkshire, where it received fleetnumber 31915, then in 08/2005, to First Manchester. Capital Citybus must have liked the Lance based Arrows as they bought another thiry-seven. This time fitted with East Lancs Pyoneer bodies. Alexander Royale Volvo Olympian, 1996
Here is the upper deck of 424. For coming up to its 30th birthday next year, the interior is still looking really good, and the bus still runs stong.
This bus was originally part of a batch of 67 acquired by Lothian Transport between 1996 and 1997, with fleet numbers corresponding to their registrations (N*** GSX, P*** KSX & P*** PSX), although one number (280) wasn’t issued. Of these, 64 were dual-door buses, while three were single-door models with coach seating, meant for the coach division featuring a white livery that was eventually integrated into the main fleet. Buses numbered 401 to 430 (401 - 407 were N*** GSX & 408 - 430 were P*** KSX)were delivered from July to November 1996, followed by the three coach seaters (431-433, also under the P*** KSX reg). Subsequently, the numbering was reset, and buses 251 to 279 and 281 to 285 arrived between May and July 1997, registered P*** PSX. It seems that a number of these buses were sold to West Bus from 2005 to 2009, during which time they were likely converted to single-door format and retrimmed. Herbert's has acquired a few of these models, particularly P213 KSX and P422 KSX, all of which have since left the fleet. This bus was supposedly a replacement for P413 KSX, which was scrapped late last year due to a lack of major engine components.

1996 saw 24 Mercedes-Benz 709Ds with Plaxton Beaver bodies join PMT's fleet. Most were P-registered as shown by this line-up of four at Newcastle depot prior to entering service. They still await fitment of ticket machines and lack both operator's license and road tax. They were used on the Clayton group of services, routes which received new buses on a regular basis culminating in a batch of Optare Solos at the beginning of the new millenium. MMM413 (P413 NFA) leads the line here.
