Intricate
I’m amazed by the wonderful, detailed patterns created by the frost on these leaves.
I opted for the black and white version, but I also liked the full-colour one.

Close-up
… well, sort of... with a wide-angle lens.
This perspective emphasises the arches, especially on a day with low winter sun.

Sunrise at the pond
One of the benefits of ‘short days’ at this time of year in Scotland is that you don’t need to disrupt your sleep to witness sunrise (and sunset).
This shot was taken as I was walking home from a disappointing effort to take photos elsewhere. I only decided to take this route, because I saw the golden glow developing on the horizon. I hoped/anticipated that I might get a decent shot of the sunrise reflecting on the pond.
I’m quite pleased with this one – although it would have been better is the swans had been a bit more cooperative… and closer.

The frosty garden #1
I took a bunch of photos in our garden earlier this month, and haven’t got around to posting them… Until now. So over the next few days, they will (finally) appear here.

The quest to…
… capture the light
… get a decent shot of Smeaton’s Bridge.
Nearly, but not quite!

Another path
My recent mini-obesssion with forest paths continues.
This view only revealed itself when I turned around to look back. A timely reminder to look up, back, down… Basically, to be present and pay attention.

Winter sunrise
As you may have noticed, I’m quite fond of this location. And, why not?

A reward for neglect
I’m not advocating indolence, but…
If I had been diligent in moving these leaves to the leaf mould bin, I wouldn’t have had the joy of seeing them covered in frost.
(They will get moved when this cold spell ends.)

Snowscape
As I was looking at this scene, I was struck by its monochrome nature. The sky seemed to merge with the snow covered foreground. The horizon was barely discernible. And that’s how I wanted to capture it.
So, this image has had minimal processing – just a couple of tweeks.

From the other side?
The quest continues.

Baubles
Not shiny, not glittery; but lovely.
And, when you look at them closely, each one is decorated with a star.
Have a berry Christmas!

With their normal lead unit a BB GP10 having its 90 day inspection done the Dillwyn crew used just the RF&P GP7 on their Thursday run to the CSX interchange at Strathmore. The 101 was originally RF&P 104 built in 1953, it was later restored to "RF&P 101:2" by the Old Dominion Chapter of the NRHS, and now runs on the Buckingham Branch Railroad.
One of the main sources of traffic on the original 18 mile long Buckingham Branch line is wood chips from a lumber mill near Dillwyn. The CSX delivers them to the large WestRock paper mill at Covington, Virginia, along the old C&O main line west of Clifton Forge.
