Another flower for my grandmother tomorrow.

This was taken last month, which shows how behind I am on photos, lol!

This is an old rose variety, a tea from 1894. It remains fairly small, and has that heavenly strong old rose fragrance:-) I bought my plant this year when we visited Sequoia Nursery, which has since closed. I had this rose in Oregon (a gift), so was excited when the opportunity arose to get a new one.

Note: 12/22/08 I replaced the photo I put up originally. I kept looking at the 1st one, and thought it was too soft. I went back into the photos for that day, and discovered this one that I'd taken a little later, which is much better! I forgot I had this little visitor, too:-)

Did not over winter as well as the other DAR roses in 2019-20. Also, the own root roses do not seem to be as vigorous as the grafted ones. Sending out new shoots from root ball, 2020.

Easy Elegance: Como Park is a wonderful red rose that is excellent for beginning gardeners. It has consistently proven itself hardy, even through the cold Minnesota winters, coming back each year with medium red, double blossoms. Como Park boasts dark green foliage that unfurls with a touch of red, and stays disease-free all season long. It has a compact, rounded shape that is covered in blooms, making it a great accent rose shrub, especially when planted in groups.

Seemed like a compact little rose when I bought it.

DAR: Rosa 'Ausnyson' [LADY OF SHALOTT]. One of the most reliable and hardy roses in our collection - an ideal rose for the inexperienced gardener. It is highly resistant to disease and will bloom with unusual continuity throughout the season. The young buds are a rich orange-red that open to form chalice-shaped blooms, filled with loosely arranged petals. Each petal has a salmon pink upper side, which contrasts beautifully with the attractive golden yellow reverse. The flowers have a pleasant, warm Tea fragrance, with hints of spiced apple and cloves. It quickly forms a large, bushy shrub with slightly arching stems. The mid-green leaves have attractive, slightly bronzed tones when young.

Did not over winter as well as the other DAR roses in 2019-20. Also, the own root roses do not seem to be as vigorous as the grafted ones. Sending out new shoots from root ball, 2020.
