Long tailed Duck (f) - Clangula Hyemalis
Diving duck that favors saltwater in winter and Arctic tundra pools in summer. Males are distinctive with black, white, gray, and brown patterns and long pointed tail. Male plumage changes dramatically from winter to summer. Females and immature males are brownish overall with whiter face and large dark cheek patch. Dives frequently to feed mainly on invertebrates.
Small sandpiper with relatively long, droopy bill (longer on females). In breeding plumage, shows rich rufous tones on shoulders, cheeks, and crown. Nonbreeding is plain pale gray above and white below. Juveniles look pale-faced and have a bright strip of rufous feathers on the upper edge of the wings. Most similar to Semipalmated Sandpiper, which averages shorter-billed and duller grayish-brown overall. Extremely difficult to distinguish in winter; note Western is somewhat larger-headed and more front-heavy. Droopy bill might recall Dunlin, but Western is smaller and paler. Breeds on high Arctic tundra in Alaska. In migration and winter, occurs in large flocks on mudflats and beaches. Much more common in western North America; uncommon to rare on the east coast. Occurs in the winter in the U.S., unlike Semipalmated Sandpiper; regularly winters as far south as Peru, rare to Chile. (eBird)
We missed the shorebird migration by a couple of weeks, so were very pleased to come across this Western Sandpiper on the mudflats.

Nonbreeding adults are ghostly pale overall, with a dark bill, white crown, and thick blackish eye patch.
The intesity of the blue in the blue bells was beautiful. The light enhanced the overall affect of this beautiful scene in front of me. The dappled light lighting up different parts of the image. I later Post Processed in Lightroom.

This particular ibis is a medium-sized bird with an overall white plumage, bright red-orange down-curved bill and long legs. Males are larger and have longer bills than females. Their diet consists primarily of small aquatic prey, such as insects and small fishes. Pairs are predominantly monogamous and both parents care for the young.

And the purple flashes on the side are also consistent!
But it's colouring is very unusual?
I know it's not a good photo, but it shows the overall shape and markings well!

The American bushtit inhabits mixed open woodlands, often containing oaks and a scrubby chaparral understory ; it also inhabits parks and gardens. It is a year-round resident of the western United States and highland parts of Mexico, ranging from Vancouver through the Great Basin and the lowlands and foothills of California to southern Mexico and Guatemala.
The American bushtit is one of the smallest passerines in North America, at 11 cm (4.3 in) in length and 5–6 g (0.18–0.21 oz) in weight. It is gray-brown overall, with a large head, a short neck, a long tail, and a short stubby bill. The male has dark eyes and the adult female, yellow. Coastal forms have a brown "cap" while those in the interior have brown "mask."
The American bushtit is active and gregarious, foraging for small insects and spiders in mixed-species feeding flocks containing species such as chickadees and warblers, of 10 to over 40 individuals. Members of the group constantly make contact calls to each other that can be described
Benjakiti Park is located at Asok which is an area often described as the centre of Bangkok (it’s where the Sukhumvit and Rachadapisek roads meet and BTS and MRT cross paths). The 130 rai (21 hectacres) park was opened in 2004 to honor the 72nd birthday of Queen Sirikit. The development was part of a government scheme to improve the overall ‘livability’ of the city by creating more green spaces.

NORDIC HAMBURG (IMO: 9514755) is a Container Ship that was built in 2010 (11 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of Cyprus.
It’s carrying capacity is 1036 TEU and her current draught is reported to be 7.9 meters. Her length overall (LOA) is 151.72 meters and her width is 23.43 meters.

An overall sooty-colored cuckooshrike with broad white tips to the tail feathers. Male is dark sooty-gray with a slaty sheen, slightly paler on rump. Underparts paler toward tail; wings black. Female is very similar to male, but paler in general, often weakly barred with dark and pale gray on underparts. Male has a black mask, while female has dark lores and a faint eyering. Juvenile is blackish-brown above and brownish-gray below, heavily scaled whitish all over, with broad white tips on wing feathers. Immature like female, but more strongly and extensively barred below. Song is a loud series of whistles “pe-pe-pe-peew-peew-pew”; sometimes the starting notes are skipped. Found in all types of woodlands, including broad-leaved forests, sometimes even near cultivation during non-breeding season. (eBird)

During a very sobering visit to the tunnel systems used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, I caught a glimpse of this bird high in the canopy. It brought a little peace of mind, knowing that birds were once again inhabiting this place of war and destruction.
I had originally id'd this bird as an Ashy Drongo but I was wrong. The long tail misled me, but of course, the eBird reviewer let me know my mistake right away :-)

Glaciers of the Bolivian Andes represent an important water resource for Andean cities and mountain communities, yet relatively little work has assessed changes in
their extent over recent decades. In many mountain regions,
glacier recession has been accompanied by the development of proglacial lakes, which can pose a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) hazard. However, no studies have assessed the development of such lakes in Bolivia despite recent GLOF incidents here. Our mapping from satellite imagery reveals an overall areal shrinkage of 228.1 ± 22.8 km2
(43.1 %) across the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental between
1986 and 2014. Shrinkage was greatest in the Tres Cruces
region (47.3 %), followed by the Cordillera Apolobamba
(43.1 %) and Cordillera Real (41.9 %). A growing number
of proglacial lakes have developed as glaciers have receded,
in accordance with trends in most other deglaciating mountain ranges, although the number of ice-contact lakes has decreased.

I was truly fortunate to have a photo opportunity on the Lynnwood Docks, North Vancouver, BC.
There is no public access to these docks, marina or surrounding property. I had a special access tour as a guest, from a long time personal friend.

Ocean Granville and Ocean Kitsilano are 381 gt vessels built by Damen's Song Cam shipyard in Vietnam
OCEAN KITSILANO Tugboat Built 2019 (IMO: 9833620) Equipped with high-pressure water guns that assist in the dousing of fires. She is currently sailing under the flag of Canada.
Her length overall (LOA) is 28 meters and her width is 13 meters.
PACIFIC MARINER II (IMO: 6709713) is a Tug that was built in 1966 (54 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of Canada.

Overall composition showing the Corvette parade there in Ocean City, Maryland. Liked this view with the sunlight sneaking into the scene and on the cars, and overall how the people are all interacting in the scene as well.
Bath time! This hummingbird was zipping around a little fountain in a pond. It dipped in and out of the water and enjoyed the spray.
Large aggressive hummingbird that usually dominates feeders or flower patches. Sparkling green overall with purplish-blue patches on cheeks and belly. Sexes alike. Larger than Lesser Violetear, and that species lacks the purple belly. Common and widespread in the Andes. Uses open habitats, including forest edge, shrubby agricultural land, and towns and cities. Found from 400–4,500 m; most common from the subtropical zone up to high elevation scrub and dry valleys, but also wanders low into foothills. Listen for the incessant song, a never-ending series of metallic chip notes.

A perky little bird of open country, especially heathland with gorse, moorland, weedy meadows, scrubby marsh margins, and rough grassland with scattered low bushes. Perches atop bushes and on fences, dropping to the ground to feed, before flying back up to a perch.
Male distinctive, with blackish head set off by big white patch on sides of neck, orangey breast. Female brownish overall with paler eyebrow (only behind eye, unlike Whinchat), dull orangey breast; shows paler rump in flight, contrasting with solidly blackish tail. Warbled song is short and buzzy.
Calls include dry “tchak” and rising “weet.”
The business end of a small carbon fiber brush for cleaning a phonograph stylus (needle) as safely as possible. The bristle cluster itself is ¼ inch (6mm) diameter; the overall length of the brush is just under 2⅜" (exactly 58mm) long.
The very fine-bristled brush, when used correctly, is a lot easier on the stylus and the fragile cantilever (stylus support arm) of a modern cartridge than the time-worn tactic of using your index finger to knock those little dust bunnies off the needle. Of course, keeping records clean minimizes the likelihood of those bunnies multiplying ;).

EEMS EXE (IMO 9195535, MMSI 236452000) is a General Cargo Ship built in 2003 (21 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Gibraltar. Her length overall (LOA) is 88.6 meters and her width is 12.52 meters.
With her white tear-drop mark behind her eye an overall Raw Umber coloring, and a lower belly of Geranium Pink; the female Elegant Trogon is no less intriguing than her male partner. Not often comes the chance to get a close look. This day was to be the exception.

This image was definitely a case of keeping things minimal. I wanted the shadows to be deep and the highlighted areas to be a small part of the overall composition. I only noticed the potential for a shot when I was walking away from the scene and happened to glance over my shoulder (as one has to do on a regular basis when looking out for cyclists whilst walking around Attenborough). I took a range of exposures, but I felt this one worked the best, underexposing teh scene by about four stops in comparison to the meter readings!

PE2M-387 is seen entering the yard just before the lines head down the mine with a rake of empty wagons. We had spent a short while at the yard talking with workers and having a look inside a TEM2. No one seemed to care that we just walked in.
The locos themselves are quite interesting as they are made up of three sections, the main part which looks like a loco, albeit a little unusual, as well as two tippers which have powered axles.
This particular loco was built around 1984 and is one of many that work at Almalyk GMK. Overall it's a great place to watch industrial locos trundle up and down between mine and industry.

"One of the largest Great Blue Heron colonies in Western North America, this island of forest sits between Padilla and Fidalgo Bays. Vera and Bud Kinney donated this property to Skagit Land Trust in 1994 to protect the nesting herons. With the cooperation of neighboring landowners, each year, Skagit Land Trust conducts a nest count in the heronry. 546 heron nests were counted in 2016 in this relatively small area, which provides easy access to feeding grounds for the herons. Unfortunately, the Trust does not have access to all neighboring property, and therefore some heron nests are uncounted. The overall trend, however, shows increasing number of heron nests in the colony on Skagit Land Trust property and the property to which we have access -- and there are likely to be hundreds more nests on the adjacent property to which we do not have access." Despite the very grey sky, this was a great show. The markings on the side of the plane ahead of the cockpit are flags of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each flag marking a (free) display the aircraft gave in support of Health workers during the pandemic. On the other side are flags to represent the displays made over hospitals in England - over 250 such across the UK. The light patches behind the cockpit are the hand painted names sponsored by donors to raise money for the charity NHS Together. Interesting that the flags can be resolved by this camera but the names cannot!
This Spitfire is one of the unarmed photo-reconnaissance versions which has long range fuel tanks and cameras in place of weapons.

International Jaguar Day was created to raise awareness about the increasing threats facing the jaguar and the critical conservation efforts ensuring its survival from Mexico to Argentina.
Observed annually on November 29, International Jaguar Day celebrates the Americas’ largest wild cat as an umbrella species for biodiversity conservation and an icon for sustainable development and the centuries-old cultural heritage of Central and South America.
The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a large felid species and the only extant member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas. The jaguar's present range extends from Southwestern United States and Mexico in North America, across much of Central America, and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina in South America.
It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List; and its numbers are declining. Threats include loss and fragmentation of habitat.
Overall, the jaguar is the largest native cat species of the New World and the third largest in the world. This spotted cat closely resembles the leopard, but is usually larger and sturdier. It ranges across a variety of forested and open terrains, but its preferred habitat is tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forest, swamps and wooded regions.
The jaguar enjoys swimming and is largely a solitary, opportunistic, stalk-and-ambush predator at the top of the food chain. As a keystone species it plays an important role in stabilizing ecosystems and regulating prey populations.

Image captured at Yanacocha Nature Reserve in very high attitude (elevation)....Possibly 13000+ feet above sea level; since Quito is already at about 10000 feet.
I made a mistake of renting a smaller car and not a 4 wheel drive and I almost got stuck in the mud up this very narrow and rocky mountain road 10 km long west of Quito. But to see this beautiful lifer for the 1st time is well worth it. I guess that's why it was named "Mountain" tanager.

Small origami hexagon box designed by Tomoko Fuse. The base and lid are each folded from a half sheet of 6" kami with an overall hexagon pattern. The finished box is 1.5" from point to point. The background is the same paper with the hexagon pattern in reverse colors.
