The intesity of the blue in the blue bells was beautiful. The light enhanced the overall affect of this beautiful scene in front of me. The dappled light lighting up different parts of the image. I later Post Processed in Lightroom.

A medium-sized pallid and delicately-patterned sandgrouse. Pale and sandy overall. Males have a subtle pattern on upperparts while females are thinly spotted. Lacks breast bands, unlike Pin-tailed and Black-bellied Sandgrouse. Spotted Sandgrouse has an elongated rear compared to the similar Crowned Sandgrouse’s medium-length pin-tail projections. In flight note the strong contrast in its two-toned underwings. Flight call is a characteristic “Waka! Waka!” Favors sandy or stony desert plains where it breeds on the ground. Congregates to drink in waterholes in the morning, often flies long distances back and forth in large flocks.
We had to stay in the van when these birds arrived as they are very shy and would have taken off immediately. Not the easiest way to take a good photo, but one takes what one can get :)

This tiny, plump-bodied, big-headed bird is a familiar woodland resident and backyard visitor in the northern U.S. and Canada. Gray overall with light buffy flanks and a contrasting head pattern: black cap, white cheek, and black throat. Short, stubby bill is used for hammering open seeds. Often the core of mixed flocks of songbirds. Visits feeders. Nearly identical to Carolina Chickadee, but range barely overlaps. Especially note voice, brighter white on wings, and buffier flanks on Black-capped. Beware that hybrids occur frequently in the overlap zone and some are best left unidentified. (eBird)

I just love chickadees and a birding trip is never complete with seeing at least a dozen. Photographing them is another matter entirely. In most of my favourite birding locations they are so used to people feeding them that they come much too close to capture with the 800mm lens (my preferred birding lens). Last week, it was overcast and snowing when I went birding, so I took the shorter 100-400mm lens instead and finally managed a few chickadee images.

Night shot of a woolly lemur. This is the only time I saw this type of lemur on my entire Madagascar trip.
The woolly lemurs, also known as avahis or woolly indris, are nine species of strepsirrhine primates in the genus Avahi. Like all other lemurs, they live only on the island of Madagascar.
With a body size of up to 20 inches long and a weight of up to 42 ounces, the woolly lemurs are the smallest indriids. Their fur is short and woolly. The body can be grey brown to reddish, with white on the back of the thighs, with a long, orange tail. The head is round with a short muzzle and ears hidden in the fur.
Woolly lemurs can be found in both humid and dry forests, spending most of their time in the leafy copse. Like many leafeaters, they need long naps to digest their food. Woolly lemurs live together in groups of two to five animals, which often consist of parents and several generations of their offspring. Males and females live in pairs.
Like all indriids, the woolly lemurs are strictly herbivorous, eating predominantly leaves, but also buds and, rarely, flowers. Overall life expectancy is not known. – Wikipedia

Shumisen (Mt. Sumeru) is the rock on the top of the mound as explained in the previous photo.
Arranged rocks in the right is Karedaki (枯れ滝 dry waterfall) that is the Mitate of waterfall. Three small rocks in the extreme left are Sansonseki (三尊石 three statue stones) that represent Buddha and Bodhisattvas. The flat rock in the lower left is Reihaiseki (礼拝石 prayer stone) that is the recommended viewpoint of the stone garden. (Information is from garden-guide.jp/spot.php?i=manpukuji)
UNMISTAKABLE. Overall, it is a splendid glossy violaceous blue-black. Found in forest areas in the Gambia., and very lucky to see one let alone two.

Taken last weekend at Dunbar East Bay. There was a weird glow above the posts in the raw file and very confused what caused this, so in an effort to reduce this I applied a overall glow to the image and gave a slightly different atmosphere to the shot.
There was quite a lot of seaweed floating about so did a 2 min exposure to minimise this.
Processed in Silver Effex Pro 2
Medium-sized, rather nondescript raptor with overall dark plumage. Slightly forked tail, the fork disappearing when the tail is fully open. Head and neck are short. The juvenile is paler with a pale panel on upperwings and a dark mask around the eyes. Flight style buoyant, gliding and changing direction with ease. Commonly found in urban areas, rubbish dumps, aquatic habitats, grassland, but usually avoids heavily forested areas. May be found solitarily but also in large flocks on migration and at good feeding areas.

Captured this with three RAW shots at -2..0..+2 EV. Digital blending in Photoshop CS6. Increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Topaz DeNoise to reduce noise. Topaz Clarity filter to increase contrast and color.

Prefiere las zonas cercanas a las costas, lugares con pastos y poco arbolados o bosques semicaducifolios abiertos. Se mantiene alejada de los bosques densos.
El macho tiene la cabeza, el dorso del cuello, el pecho, el abdomen superior y las grandes plumas cobertoras de las alas de color castaño violáceo claro. La espalda superior y la garganta son más claras y opacas. Las cobertoras menores y medias son de color gris parduzco. La espalda inferior, la rabadilla y el resto del abdomen son de color gris azulado claro que se aclara hacia los flancos. Las plumas remeras y la cola son grises. El pico es negruzco. El ojo tiene el iris blanco plomizo y la esclerótica rojiza. Las patas son rojizas. La hembra es similar pero más opaca. Los inmaduros son de un color gris parduzco predominante que es más claro en el abdomen y bajo la rabadilla. Se agrupan en bandos. Son poco ariscas y no se desbandan cuando se les dispara. Se alimentan de pequeños frutos y semillas.

The plain pigeon / Paloma Ceniza (Patagioenas inornata) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Its natural habitats are forest, woodland, coastal desert, mangrove and swampy areas. It is threatened by habitat loss.
The plain pigeon is a large-bodied bird (38 cm [15 in]) that superficially resembles the common city pigeon. At a distance it appears pale blue-gray overall. The head, hind-neck, breast, and part of the folded wing are colored with a red-wine wash. When folded, the wing shows a white leading edge; in flight, it forms a conspicuous wing bar. Legs and feet are dark red. The female is slightly smaller and duller than the male. Juveniles are browner overall, with pale wing margins and dark eyes.
Three subspecies of the plain pigeon are recognized: P. i. inornata from Cuba and Hispaniola, P. i. exigua from Jamaica, and P. i. wetmorei from Puerto Rico.
